In the movie Annie Hall Diane Keaton’s character famously says “la dee da” when she feels suitably nervous or speechless. Have you anything similar when on the rare ocassions you feel this way? Of course you may just nod & smile or shuffle off or something else entirely.Whatever it’s all good. Or maybe not….in which case we shall move swiftly on.

Slight edit people, may or may not help.
In Dutch: tssss.
In English: jeez.
In Greek: tsk tsk.
In Urdu: …...
Lol I have said that for several years when I’m speechless or I forget something
Raise one eyebrow (which to be honest is my stock response for a lot of things).
I say nothing. You’d be amazed how affective a long silence can be. Most people get fidgety and start to chatter in order to fill in the void.
I agree with Lighlyseared. Say nothing or be honest and say “I’m at a loss.” :)
@gailcalled Absolutely, known as…..................... the pregnant pause. Can be deadly effective in the right circumstances.
I say… Bla, bla bla. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
I’m good for throwing in a “sooooo….” every now and then, too.
@ucme: Saying nothing is particularly helpful when I am speechless or at a loss for words (which happens rarely these days. I may not be able to charge my iPod nano, however.)
