My email was hacked into, what do I do?
It’s a gmail account and someone accessed it when I was asleep through a mobile phone and spammed my contact list (and possibly others). Is it best to stop using this account or do I just need to reset the password/security options?
I’m kind of freaked out as I had a secure password.

If it was a one time thing, I’d just change your password. Gmail sent me a notice that someone accessed my account from Toronto, and after changing my password no one has accessed it since. This was a couple of months ago.
Granted, they didn’t spam anyone (that I know of), you might want to check the mail they sent out for viruses. If they uploaded a file or anything like that, they might have tried to put in something to allow them access again.
If it happens again, I’d both contact Google to let them know and change over to a new account. Obviously, don’t keep anything sensitive in your account.
First, change the password from another computer. Not this one. Next scan your computer for keylogger software. Someone who had access to your pc might have slipped a little something on it when they were “helping” you with a problem.
Use Firefox and download keyscrambler to make it more difficult for them.
Also change all your other online passwords, especially anything involving real money – bank, credit card, ebay, etc.
While they had access to your Gmail, they could go to those sites and click on “I forgot my password, email it to me.”
