Do You Like Kraft Mac and Cheese or Homemade?

Asked by GrumpyGram (830points) June 6th, 2010

If it’s eaten immediately, I Love boxed macaroni and cheese. In fact , there’s an entire website devoted to it with people telling how they fix it.
I’m sure it’s wasted calories. Do you like it or think it’s processed garbage? If you like it, do you put something special on it or in it?

I only rock the blue box. Noodles Al dente. No butter and a very tiny amount of milk. I don’t like it soupy.

I’m cool with generics for everything else. My Mac and Cheese must be the Kraft blue box. Generic ones are not the same.

My mom adds hot dogs or tuna. I find them foul.

Definitely processed garbage. Read the box. On the other hand, it a quick go to side dish when you’re in a hurry (but I would still rather without). I have seen others put some extra real cheese in it to soup it up.

My wife’s homemade.
I wouldn’t eat the boxed stuff with your tongue.

blue box stuff + tad of milk + handful of shredded italian blend cheese blend + vine ripened, quartered tomatoes = bliss in 10 minutes

We actually used to snort the packets of Kraft Cheese Dust when we were kids.

i lost a lot of good friends to the kraft, man. a lot of good friends.

I used to love Kraft Mac and Cheese as a child, and as a college student I enjoy some Easy Mac now and then. However, my mother’s homemade mac and cheese is wonderful. She makes her own cheese sauce and it’s just wonderful. There is no comparison. Kraft is the king of the processed stuff, and homemade is always tops. Just follow the directions, and all is good.

Lol. A pretty funny question, but I really love my mom’s homemade. The Kraft Cheese is what I have now and I am not used to it, so I think it’s disgusting.

I like them both. I make a mean homemade one that I enjoy and Hubbs makes a wonderful vegan version that’s always a hit. For the boxed stuff I use a tbsp of butter, skim milk and add a ratio of mixed veggies 1:1 with the pasta.

Oh god yes. I love mac and cheese. In almost any variety. It is terrible for you but it is so damn delicious. I eat Kraft blue box (usually shapes, sometimes spirals), Velveeta, and homemade. I used to eat it almost daily as my second lunch after school. (In high school I had about 4 meals a day; my days were very long).

I have a major dislike to the blue box or any recipe that uses powdered cheese like that it’s nasty and it’s defiently garbage. I will stick to my homemade mac and cheese.

I don’t like homemade mac and cheese. It’s too….. something.
Team blue box.

i like Stouffer’s (frozen) mac and cheese. i like homemade, the kind that’s kind of hard that you have to cut, (in other words, baked mac and cheese). my mom used to make a great one. i will eat the boxed one if i’m desperate, but i will try to add some veggies for variety, like some cauliflower (pre-boiled) or broccoli (ditto).

I love homemade mac and cheese but not my own. I’ve never quite gotten the hang of it. This guy I used to work with, his mother made the best macaroni and cheese I have ever tasted in my life. Whenever we would have some kind of potluck/covered dish event at work he would bring it. I would kill for that mac and cheese. I got him to get the recipe from his mom and it’s around here somewhere.

it depends who is making this homemade mac and cheese…
its easy to screw up.
but if you do it right its amazingly fantastic.

but the blue box is consistantly good…

guess it depends if youre willing to risk it. lol.

Oh, I forgot to add Stouffer’s mac to my list as well as mac n cheese from Panera…heavenly!

I like both, but if I’m cooking, I generally am going to choose Kraft Mac and Cheese. It’s much easier and quicker to make. When I do make homemade, it dirties up so many dishes and takes so long. My kids prefer Kraft to homemade anyday.

I’ll stick to stouffers and velveeta.
Now my nieces MIL makes a wonderful mac and cheese to die for.

hapner2's avatar

Neither. I have never been a fan of Mac and Cheese.

kenmc's avatar

Either. If I have the proper ingredients, I’ll make the home-made, but that usually isn’t the case.

downtide's avatar

I don’t like the taste of processed cheese sauce, and I’m dairy-intolerant, so I only make home made.

Boxed mac-and-cheese doesn’t even have real cheese in it… :{

Personally, I don’t like mac-and-cheese, although I did when I was little. Grew out of it. :)

I think it’s scary. I’m not sure you can really call it cheese at all. I’ve certainly prepared it in a pinch. What I don’t understand is why kids like it so much.

GrumpyGram's avatar

It isn’t really cheese so what is IN that envelope?

Neizvestnaya's avatar

As a kid I loved that stuff probably because my mother wouldn’t allow it but I could eat it if at friends’ homes. Once I hit my 20’s then I discovered Velveeta and I promptly forgot about Kraft. My mother-in-law amazed me by showing me ,mac n cheese could be made with real chunks of cheese and after that I think my husband and I ate mac n cheese with everything for a few years. I still crave the stuff if I see it on buffet tables or offered as a side in a restaurant. I’m pretty sure it just turns into sugar paste in my tummy but oh, Elvis was onto something.
