How do I transfer music from my Mac-formatted iPod to my PC laptop?

Asked by asteraceae (20points) June 6th, 2010

The computer that I originally had my music on is gone, and now my new HP laptop won’t recognize that my Mac-formatted 5th gen iPod contains music.

I’ve looked up some different tutorials and programs and things, but I ended up more confused that I started, unfortunately. I tried to use one (the name of which escapes me) but it wanted me to “Enable Disk Use”, which isn’t even an option when I look at my iPod in iTunes right now.

What would you suggest I use to get the music off of the iPod and onto my laptop? Or, is it possible? I do have access to a Mac laptop, if that helps. Thanks.

it would take a lot of work, but the only way is to put all of the songs on your mac onto CDs, and then upload them into your PC.

depending on the amount of songs you have and the size of your disks, it could take a few minutes to nearly a day.

This article from engadget seems pretty comprehensive and easy to follow. They recommend ephpod to connect to the iPod and copy the data from it. What’s not clear is that if your iPod is Mac formatted, your PC may not be able to read it. For that you can install MacDrive.
