How to get gauze off a wound?

Asked by Jeremycw1 (1370points) June 9th, 2010

I put some gauze with neosporin on my skinned up elbow over night, and now it is stuck to it with dried blood and stuff. Is there a way that I can remove it without excruciating pain? Thanks!

Try pressing a clean washcloth that has been soaked in warm water and then squeezed out on top of gauze. It and the dried blood will come off.

If you shower with it on, chances are you’ll find it on the floor of the shower without even touching it.

@GeorgeGee : But the skinned part may get gluey if you let warm water pour over it.

Get in a warm bath and soak it off.

Soak the bandage off. Then, if the wound is still greasy with no skin yet. Let it dry before putting on the neosporin or whatever topical antibiotic so it won’t stick again.
