It’s not going to be on the cob; I’m making gumbo.
I still will use toilet paper. I don’t care how Grandpa used to do it.
I didn’t know that. But I can have corn. Huge sacrifice, I know, but someone has to do it.
Nowhere near ripe here. The corn trucked in from NJ (sorry, Jerseyites) is starchy and good only for the compost. My plans are to eat a fistful of freshly shelled peas.
I would have a nice big corn soup for lunch with three or four ears of corn on the cob and alot of potatoes and carrots and chicken.
Far too early for corn on the cob; not good here til almost August.
@gailcalled If you are getting Jersey corn now, it is probably animal fodder. The only corn in our stores is from Florida.
I’m with Gail and Jan on this one. I highly doubt anyone would hold a “corn on the cob day” before the product was actually ripe. I think you made it up. Source please.
Who, in their right mind, would set June 11th as national corn on the cob day? Maybe Southern corn on the cob day, but not national.
Corn in the Northeast will not be any good until mid-July to late August, depending on where you live. Labor day would be the best for corn-on-the-cob day here.
Well, national days are usually pretty silly, although this one seems sillier than most.
@breedmitch: No fresh corn at the farmers’ markets in Brooklyn?
Maude, yeah it’s there but it’s the product you described.
We should start getting the good stuff around the end of June. We get the best corn. Really. Deliveries three times a week from boutique farms just north of the city.
Harold: Just north of the city is just south of me. Why aren’t we getting the pick of the litter?
Love, Maudie
