What kind of chat/computer program do Berry and Willis use to chat in Perfect Stranger?

Is it made up just for the movie?

My understanding is that these kinds of things are categorically very simple little micro-functional mockup forms custom created for the production.

They need to be highly configurable such that if a director or DP want, say, the text to be twice as big and purple, you can do that effortlessly (read: quickly). Existing applications don’t do that.

It’s cheaper/easier/quicker/safer to just create a quick form that is completely nondescript to avoid any kind of litigation, and to be completely configurable – usually to make everything huge so the camera can see it. Just like stage furniture may be smaller to photo well, computer screen content often needs to be super huge (and overly simple) to photo well.

That being said, if anyone recognizes this or this, as a known IM app, bring it.

It looks to me by this shot that the app was not configurable enough, so they just created a PowerPoint for the medium shot. This is exactly the kind of poetic license taken by Hollywood regularly as a necessity to get ideas across clearly to the screen. Check out the inconsistent text alignment.

I don’t see it in the English trailer (I have not seen the movie screen shots were from two Youtube trailer vids) but it is also possible that the last shot (my link) was created as a necessity to capture information for foreign distribution that was not acquired during principle photography. All kinds of crazy stuff like that happens too. I would have to see the movie (both editions) to have a more informed opinion though.

I have no idea if any of this is the case for this movie. It is just my best guess.
