Popular guitar songs?
Ive got to be a counselor for a rock guitar summer camp next week. Can we generate a big list of songs for me to learn that kids 9–14 would want to learn to play?
This would be a great help, thanks!

This is a very popular song for beginner guitarists.
inb4 Stairway to Heaven
Wipeout is always a hit
That “Hey There Delilah” song seems to be on the easy side, too. And it’s modern enough that the kids might actually know it.
And and, deffaly teach them good old minor Pentatonic scales. Blues! Woo!
Mt son had a music party over the weekend and many of the kids were that age and Blackbird by Beatles and Stairway to Heaven were 2 songs they seemed to have fun tackling. Wild thing and Whole Lotta Love were 2 of my first songs I learned at that age.
This takes the biscuit. Of course, SRV is kind of a gold standard but hey! It will give the more serious and ambitious ones something to shoot for!
Hotel California. And, lots of Led Zeppelin.
I like Enrique Iglesias’ song I’m Your Man, for a more recent song.
Sleep Walk, Santo and Johnny….Youtube.
I’m extremely surprised no one said smoke on the water by deep purple. That’s THE beginner guitar song.
@JONESGH I was about to say the same thing. You could also try Iron Man by Black Sabbath. If they’ve seen the movie, they’d probably enjoy playing that song, too.
You probably have access to the phone numbers of the kids that registered, right? Call some of ‘em up and ask THEM what they wanna learn.
The Eagles are fucking awesome! But they might not appeal to the kids today, maybe you could try some songs by the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Nirvana….something mainstream.
Misery Business by Paramore is pretty easy.
