What's the best laptop to buy?

We need internet and email access while traveling overseas. We are looking for recommendations on purchasing an economical but good laptop for this purpose.

A netbook is small, and thus quite portable, and perfect for accessing the net and getting email. You can even load some software on there if you like and use it like a regular computer. Consumer Reports like the Asus netbooks back around Christmas time. The one we got cost $300. You can probably get a lot more for $300 now, or buy a netbook for $250.
