Should Assault Victim Sue Congressman Etheridge?
Congressman Bob Etheridge assaulted a well-dressed college student on a street in Washington, DC who politely asked him the harmless question “Do you fully support the Obama agenda?” After a video of the assault was made public, Etheridge apologized for his illegal actions. Should the student sue the congressman for assault and battery?

Not everything is, nor should be, a liable offense.
Whether or not the Congressman should be sued….really isn’t the point. I saw the video (yes, it was played across the pond.) I was appalled at this man’s behavior. He man-handled that student in a rough way. Marianne Williamson (writer/lecturer) talked about the “shadow” in people…and that when we lose our temper, get road rage, get angry…if we extend that…it is the very same energy that causes genocide and wars.
What seems to be the overriding concern for me is….Why on earth should this type of behavior on the part of a member of Congress be directed to a student? Or anyone?
What on earth possessed this man? He was really out to harm. And had the cameras not been there, I am sure he would have decked the student.
People elected this guy…I hope he is unelected….that will make more of an impact than a lawsuit.
In the video clip apparently all Etheridge does is hold the guy by his wrist.
According to Fox News though, what we don’t see is the videographer being shot with a silenced gun by Etheridge’s Secret Service (SS) trooper, thereby stopping the video.
After that they claim that in a fit of Liberal Nazi Communist reverse-racist PC rage, Etheridge tore the poor kid’s arm off, so the kid should take him to small claims court!
By the way…anyone….where were the students from? Anyone? (This was never answered in the surviving video.)
Somehow I see this man’s seat being filled by someone else in November.
Sue? Why, was he injured? Or did you mean punitively? I think the publicity of the video has created more pain for Etheridge than any lawsuit would.
I think the student should be proud and grateful for his 15 minutes of fame and rise above any urge to sue.
The congressman didn’t simply hold the student by the wrist but also grabbed him by the neck, which is clearly visible on the video. Should the victim file criminal charges?
The Congressman’s behaviour is totally unacceptable and if the DA will not press charges, then a lawsuit may be necessary. What I saw looked like assault and battery.
If the college student had dared to touch the congressman in that manner he’d be serving time.
I’d say a lawsuit is in order if they can’t get at the congressman any other way.
Merriment. That’s an excellent point.
