How to reformat iPod without iTunes?

Asked by elhaha1001 (383points) June 15th, 2010

I hate iTunes, and I don’t want to use iTunes to reformat my iPod.
it would be also a waste of time to download and install the itunes on the computer again.

Are the any possible ways to reformat iPod without iTunes?

Can we reformat it directly from windows, just like reformatting normal hard drive or flash disk?

I am using iPod classic 2009.

Well, you can have your computer reformat the iPod via the My Computer menu (in the context menu). But I don’t know if that’s terribly safe for the device.
Can you use WMP? It has a synch function, and sometimes the device won’t really care.

You can reformat an ipod from Windows without any problems. I’d sugest using FAT32 as the file system.

You can then use an ipod manager like anapop explorer to transfer music to the ipod as you can’t just copy files to it like other MP3 players.

@Lightlyseared have you tried it yet? is it safe? won’t the program of the ipod dissapear?

after that i will use mediamonkey to transfer the songs as usual.. is that okay?
