Dracula. I wouldn’t change his fate though, because it all ended up well, and he was content with that conclusion in the end, even if he experienced two seconds of true happiness for the first time in like, 300 years.
What happened to Lucy was rather unfortunate, however.
Also, Don Sebastian De Villanueva, who’s another vampire. The book The Black Castle really explored the gray area between good and evil, and shot the whole thing down the drain. I wouldn’t change his fate either though apart from actually letting him rest after book one. Like Saint-German, he’s got plenty of adventures after, but really they’re all rehashes of book one, which makes it kinda disappointing.
Books like that make me think that there never is any really evil people, but I am reminded of…Woundwort, from Watership Down. Now that fucker was mean, and even when you hear the extremely sad and touching story of his youth, his villainy still stands out. Oh it’s justified alright, but he’s still king of all bastards.
I’m a real fan of villains and antagonists though, and I always end up, wanting it or not, paying extra attention to them in books and movies and video games. I like seeing their stories, and how they ended up like they are, or seeing them as such.(And often realizing they’re really all fine peeps.) It’s always so much more interesting than heroes.
Magus, Saruman, Calisto, Oroku Sake…the only antagonist I recall not really liking was Voldermort from Harry Potter.
I’m also quite a fan of antiheroes, Cloud Strife, Yuri Hyuga, Tony Stark, Conan.
But yeah, as an actual answer, I choose Michael Myers from Halloween. He fucking rocks. And by then I’m starting to loose myself in the definition of antagonist…
