What is your latest musical discovery?
Time and time again, I’ve been able to count on the collective to provide great musical suggestions. My musical situation as of late has been a bit stagnant, and I could use some new tunes. So, what music have you heard lately that you can’t take off of repeat? It doesn’t have to be brand new music per se, just what is currently making your ears happy.
Links are greatly appreciated.

They remind me of an English and clean version of Mr Bungle.
EDIT: After reading “Only Death is Real”, I have a profound and an even greater appreciation for the band Hellhammer and Tom G Warrior in general, and I’ve been listening to the Satanic Rites demo a lot lately.
I cannot get the Shut up woman, get on my horse tune out of my head. Where the guys voice harmonizes – the modality. And then the girl’s little jiggle dance.
I’ve been rocking the album by Sleigh Bells recently. I don’t necessarily know how to describe them, but they’re kind of a noise hip-hop duo. My friend described it as “Beyonce meets Top 40 hip hop on acid”, which I guess seems pretty accurate. They use hip hop drum beats, plus a single guitar and female vocalist.
It wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t share at least one. This has been on heavy repeat lately:
Only If You Run – Julian Plenti (aka Paul Banks of Interpol).
Keep ‘em coming, folks. :)
@Michael_Huntington I like ‘em, especially link 2.
@TheOnlyNeffie What a great voice! Thanks!
@ipso Whoa. Well… I needed that laugh, gracias.
@jjmah As usual, you don’t disappoint. Great song!
@andrew Cool stuff. I’d never heard the Yo Yo Ma take on Morricone. I love ES&TMZ.
@Vunessuh A musical feast! I’ve heard the Placebo song, but the rest are new to me. Thanks!
@dverhey Whoa, what a cool sound. I really, really like it.
@jjmah Thank you for that link!
I can’t do links from iPhone but just head on over to YouTube Search and pop in

She’s got mad skills on many instruments but her beatin’ up on that Dulcimer is crazy good. Can’t get it out of my head.
And if she can hang with Levon Helm ( The Band ) that’s a good enough reco for me.
She’s appeared at his Midnight Ramble up in Woodstock.
Just this morning i was pointed to Clear Light , by, i think it was @Arisztid , in the chatroom.
Lately I’ve been getting into the music of Glazunov. Raymonda the ballet is what started it, even though I had heard his concert waltzes a while ago. I was sampling bits of his symphonies on iTunes and I’m starting to realize that pretty much everything by Glazunov is excellent.
I have recently discovered The 69 Eyes, and have hardly stopped listening them for about a week now.
Good Old War’s new album, The Smiths, The National, Interpol, Miike Snow…
I’ve also been listening to a lot of Jarvis Cocker recently. Kind of brilliant lyrics on that one.
These have all been great so far. Thanks, everybody!
Bishop Of Hexen, Eluveitie, You Me At Six, Black Veil Brides, Aphrodite’s Child, Lordi, Nightwish, Basshunter, Dir en Grey, Jesus On Extasy, Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Breaking Benjamin, Dream Theater, Abney Park, Eyes Of Fire, Floater, A Perfect Circle, Mad Season, Black Label Society, Skillet, Theatres des Vampires, The New Pornographers.
@Draconess25 Lordi, Nightwish and Dream Theater are great bands! You might also want to try Tarot and Delain, both of which have the same bassist as Nightwish.
The new Gorillaz (whole album).
I like this.
So far, I’m highly addicted to the band Empire of the Sun, singles like ’ Without You’ and ’ Walking on a Dream ’ . I also like the song ’ Bodyaches ’ by Sugar and Gold, it sounds kind of like Daft Punk and Tahiti 80, if your into techno/electronic pop—I heard it at Hollister once, its very good chill music. Hope this helps :)
They’re not my latest discovery, but I do love Of Montreal, and they have a new album coming out in September. I think a track features Solange Knowles, of all people! That should be interesting.
I’ve also been listening to a ton of Battles lately, mostly because of their amazing instrumentalism. I mean, the guitarists can finger tap on a guitar, play a different keyboard melody, and sing all at the same time. I can’t think of many bands that can do that.
Rediscovering an old favorite, I’ve been liking the new Chemical Brothers album as well. So much more experimental and weird than their last few, but much better.
A few timeless classical pieces:
Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini
Mozart symphony no. 40 (g minor)
Tchaikovsky symphony no. 5
Swan Lake
Chopin Piano concerto no. 1
Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto
Brahms intermezzos
Grieg piano concerto
Peer Gunt suite
etc.
The list goes on, but you get the idea, and even these should keep you busy for a while.
