Own and use, i guess you mean?

dpworkin's avatar

Annie Oakley wouldn’t have been such a big deal.

MrItty's avatar

No. Criminals don’t give a rat’s behind whether or not they’re “allowed” to own guns. That’s why gun laws, in general, don’t work.

gailcalled's avatar

@dpworkin: Either way, I can do anything better than you can. (Yes, I can.)

dpworkin's avatar

No, you can’t.

ucme's avatar

A calamity? Whip crack a way!

janbb's avatar

Hey, I can pee fine while standing up – if I don’t mind getting my legs all wet. Just sayin’

Blackberry's avatar

There would be more dead mistresses and wives?

jackm's avatar

I’d say the world would be a little more sexist if this was the law.

Coloma's avatar

@Blackberry

Lol

I think that all guns should be abolished and people should keep geese.

They are formidable weapons you know…point the tail end of your goose at someone and they will get a hefty blast of goose juice, then…flip em’ around and they will latch onto your nose while beating you with their wings. put them on the ground and they will chase your ass far, far, away…geese are my weapon of choice.

janbb's avatar

Brings a whole new meaning to the term “goosing” someone!

tinyfaery's avatar

@Coloma My grandfather had Geese when I was young. They only let me and my grandfather anywhere near them. No one else even tried to get close.

There would be a lot less gun owners.

wyrenyth's avatar

@jackm Really? Considering the world is still a decent amount of sexist against women (ever heard of a glass ceiling? Or the fact that it took nearly a century after Women’s Rights acts for a woman to even be considered for as a Vice President?) I can hardly imagine the pendulum would be swung in completely the opposite direction.

At any rate, I don’t think outlawing male gun owners would solve any issues. As noted, men would get them anyways. There are a lot of women I don’t think should own guns. Especially when they PMS. But, there are a lot of men I don’t think should own guns, either. That’s more for stupidity reasons as opposed to short fuses or craziness.

Then again, I’m pro-castration for stupidity, and making people get a license to breed. The gene pool, in general, needs a hefty dose of chlorine.

gailcalled's avatar

Hey, I also can pee standing up (well, squatting) if necessary. If I spread my legs wide enough, I can keep my trousers dry.

janbb's avatar

@gailcalled Way TMI – even though you’re Queen for a Day!

Hobbes's avatar

@MrItty – According to this, gun thefts are responsible for only 10–15% of the guns criminals use to commit crimes. The rest are gotten mostly through shady but legal means, or through illegal means from licensed gun sellers.

Coloma's avatar

@gailcalled

Well…go for the Olympics of peeing while squatting…take a trip to asia and try squatting over a chinese toilet on a moving train….go for the GOLD! lolol

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

Many of those women who have maybe been raped to death or something like that, it wouldn’t happen if we owned guns! We would shoot those bitches trying to rape us….

janbb's avatar

Hey, an Arab toilet on a ferry with Greece with salmonella, if we’re talking going for the – err, gold.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

Oh dear God! OK, women can carry and use guns all they want, but in trade they must STOP making fun of the clothing men wear.

Deal?

syzygy2600's avatar

Currently a man is about 10 times more likely to be shot than a woman. If only women owned guns, I’d wager more women would be getting shot than men, since for most crimes except sexual assaults, the victims are the same gender as the perpetrator.

dpworkin's avatar

Greasy salmonella? Is that a snack?

janbb's avatar

Yeah – but it tasted like shit to me.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

There would most certainly be more of this.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

And unfortunately, there would probably me a lot more of this.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

Is there an age limit as to how young the girl can be?

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’m hoping it looks like this .

Neizvestnaya's avatar

I agree with the people who say those who want guns will get them by whatever means, allowed or not. That’s the way it is right now and I don’t see it changing. The swing of power to allow one sex over the other legal access would only create hostility towards the favored sex which isn’t needed. Males are the aggressors towards females enough as it is.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

Men would be a lot more agreeable.

syzygy2600's avatar

@Neizvestnaya you do realize that in every crime except rape, 90% of the time the victim is a male being victimized by another male?

cheebdragon's avatar

Guns + PMS = not fun times…..It might cause some men to rethink having an affair though…

@syzygy2600 I’d like to see your source on that if you don’t mind, not that I doubt you or anything, Im just curious.

Coloma's avatar

Well..as usual the focus is still on aggression, violence, power over, instead of the only real solution to the ills of the world…enlightenment, equality, altruism, a solidarity amongst humans, a collective desire for peace.

Of course this would involve healthy and mature individuals, something sorely lacking for the vast majority.

Yeah, I know…not likely….but…one can dream, and do their own part.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

@syzygy2600
I don’t know the statistics for actual reported and confirmed acts of violence and aggression towards females by males but by my own years and observations then there’s enough of it to where I wouldn’t want to encourage more by pitting the sexes against each other over legalized inequal priveleges.

Hobbes's avatar

I think some people are ignoring the fact that under our current legal system, woman can own guns. I think the real point of the question is “what if men weren’t allowed to own guns”.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@Hobbes The question states, “If only women…”.

JLeslie's avatar

If throughout history only women had guns then probably women would have had more power way before they did. Weapons can be the great equalizers. Mens physical strength would have been less of a factor in who wore the pants in the family.

jazmina88's avatar

I agree with @Coloma . Evil geese will do the trick…..after feeding them at the lake, and having them chase me, whilst I was whacking them with the empty bag of bread,......screaming all the way. HEY!

Hobbes's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer – Right, but the implication of that is that men aren’t allowed to.

I think criminals, male or female, will get guns if they really want to, but making them illegal to purchase or distribute makes it a lot harder.

Dr_C's avatar

I’m with @cheebdragon on this one. I know not all women have bad PMS but imagine those who do wielding guns? I’d get the hell out of dodge! Homicide rate would go through the roof!

JLeslie's avatar

@Dr_C But women currently are allowed to have guns Why would the homocide rate go up?

antimatter's avatar

There would be a lot of dead husbands!

janbb's avatar

I know many men with mood swings much worse than women with PMS. Just sayin’ (but fairly emphatically!)

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Okay…just took a step back in thinking through the question. There are probably a fair amount of women who own a gun, either for hunting, self-protection, or job-related…and maybe just for sport. A male could still use the gun owned by someone else. When it comes to injuring or killing someone, the laws vary by state, but they apply to someone male or female.

And there would be a lot of men fighting for their equal rights.

JLeslie's avatar

Just to add, men tend to be more angry when emtionally hurt, so they are more likely to be violent towards others, women tend to turn their sadness inwards, and so they are more likely to be depressed and suicidal.

CMaz's avatar

Women would rule the world.

PMS and guns?

bolwerk's avatar

Most people who find guns appealing are limp-dicked thugs. The rest of us see them as a necessary evil, at best, or maybe in rare cases a tool (e.g., when hunting).

Such an idea would only be workable in the U.S. if the U.S. had Swiss-like training, storage, and handling rules. The current focus on mindless proliferation probably guarantees plenty of guns for antisocial elements – a broad group that includes SUV drivers, most suburbanites, most of the criminal element, and the Republikan Party – in the United States.

ItsAHabit's avatar

I suspect there might be less violence and fewer rapes.

mrentropy's avatar

Opening cans would get awfully noisy. Accidental deaths while hammering a nail would increase.
oh dear

cheebdragon's avatar

Guns would be fashion acessories lol, pink, purple, zebra print…..that’s not a bad idea actually, I would totally buy a glittery rainbow gun just for the fuck of it.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

Well the world is not a homogeneous place and what a woman should be like and what she should do varies from culture to culture, obviously. So, I believe that in some cultures, nothing would happen…they wouldn’t use them…and I believe that in others, they would use them in the same way men use them.

jessicasommers's avatar

Great question! The easiest and simplest answer would be…Women will be generally superior compared to men! I mean, isn’t it all about the guns? :)

Do you or do you not agree with me?

cookieman's avatar

I really like @Coloma‘s geese idea. I want to see a cartoon of that.

UScitizen's avatar

There would be many men with bullet holes in them. And, there would be more violent female criminals in our prisons.

bootonthroat's avatar

There would be no gays in the military.

HoneyBee's avatar

@jessicasommers-I don’t agree nor disagree with you but feel that a gun can be a great equalizer in the sense that women and men would be more equal.

mattbrowne's avatar

Yes, very different. The world would be a safer place. War and crime statistics do tell us this.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

G.I. Joe would no longer be sold armed with a gun.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@mattbrowne We can’t extrapolate today’s statistics into a world that would only give guns to women…the only reason women have little to do with guns these days are because they’re not expected to.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Nah, I don’t agree with that. Men are not expected to own a gun. And frankly, the world would be a much better place if the average citizen didn’t. England banned guns years ago and has set a good example.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer Well of course I agree with that, I’m pretty anti-gun – I meant the world of guns is associated with men, not women.

XoXoDIExOxO's avatar

@cheebdragon I think theyd replace dogs…and well in general I think crime would go a little up..like in murder or deaths..rape, robbery, and assault would go down though..I really dont know about molesting though :/ that could go both ways…Brittan has set a good exanple..just ban the guns so we can all live in peace.

HoneyBee's avatar

@antimatter – or a lot of extremely obedient ones! Bahhhahahahaha!!!!

HoneyBee's avatar

@jessicasommers – Actually on second thought, women already are.

Most men just can’t seem to get it through their thick skulls.

Just kidding.. Ha ha ha!!!

Neizvestnaya's avatar

I grew up with generations of people who looked on guns as tools and not associated with one sex or the other since both were expected to be able to handle them responsibly, children too. That the military has been male dominated is probably why some here associate guns with males. Firearms shouldn’t be the sole domain of the organized military. Civilians shouldn’t be made to feel extreme, socially backwards or criminally bent if they choose to own, train with and be prepared to use their guns in self defense if need be.

mattbrowne's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir – Another discussion about biology? Dangerous turf… and I don’t want to incur the wrath of radical feminists again here on Fluther. I know you’ve got moderate views. Remember the discussion about the the third interstitial nucleus of the anterior hypothalamus which is three times larger in heterosexual men than in heterosexual women and homosexual men?

Neizvestnaya's avatar

@mattbrowne- ooh ooh, you’ve just given me something neato to go study! Thanks :)

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@mattbrowne No, this isn’t a discussion about biology (and I thought I was a radical feminist, by my definition anyway) – this is a discussion about extrapolating certain present-day realities onto a hypothetical situation. It doesn’t matter what gender is raised to be the one to interact with guns, imo, because they will use them for power and to control like anyone. I have read plenty on women warriors, femal armies, female assassins, etc. to know that women get just as vicious, just as calculating, just as trigger happy as men.

jessicasommers's avatar

Haha, nicely put Simone De Behavoir! :) I like your outlook of thing in that light, totally true ha ha! :)

In other words, human beings are in one way or another evil! :) or the world won’t be as exciting as it is. All good, boring…all even, chaos…balance is needed to interact with one another.

mattbrowne's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir – Well, I’ve encountered feminists 10 times more radical than you, but I guess everything is a relative. In my view on average boys and men are more aggressive than girls and women and the reason is X % genetic factors and Y % upbringing and societal norms. I’ve also read that about 10% of all girls worldwide are tomboys. Now shoot me.

cheebdragon's avatar

@XoXoDIExOxO even if they could ban guns tomorrow, there would still be about 200 million guns in the United States, and they can’t exactly go door to door and remove guns from people. It would be unconstitutional on so many levels, i really can’t see very many people handing over their guns, and it’s hard remove guns if you can’t find them…..

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@mattbrowne Do you define radical by degree of ‘man-hatred’?

mattbrowne's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir – No, although the most extreme radical forms of feminism probably include man hatred. I was a bit of an activist (a moderate one) as a student from 1983 – 1988 eager to make the world a better place (anti-nuclear movement, peace movement, third world…). I met a great variety of feminists. None of them hated men or me for that matter. They appreciated men fighting with them.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@mattbrowne Sooo…then I still don’t get how you can dub me as a moderate, in any sense of that word, whatsoever.

mattbrowne's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir – It’s just a feeling. I know you since our days at wis.dm – your careful choice of words in your responses suggest moderate feminism. But I could be wrong. Do you prefer to be seen as a radical feminist?

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@mattbrowne I’m just curious. How I’m seen doesn’t really concern me. Thanks for your reply.

HoneyBee's avatar

My idea of gun control-using both hands.
HAhaha!!!!
