What sort of things would you put in a magazine for teenage boys?
More specifically for a magazine targeted at teenage boys from about 15–20ish who consider themselves ladies men and are slightly egotistical or ‘interested in the difference they are making in the world around them’.

Sex, drugs and quantum mechanics.
Learn responsibility,
Your actions matter in the long run
Girls like boys who cook
Education is important
Date the nice, quiet girls. The loud, flashy ones will only give you grief.
Have at least one article explaining Photoshop and other sorts of image manipulation. If you can, get side by side pictures of raw original images of people and show the process as to how they’re changed with Photoshop. Not only would this be interesting to the software geeks out there, but then they learn that what they’re seeing has been manipulated, and that no real female (or male) looks like the pictures they see in most ads or magazines.
An ongoing health column with a “Men’s” rather than “Boys” focus on STDs, nutrition, dangers of drinking and driving. I would include true stories from individuals of the same/similar age and the impact on their lives from their behaviors. I don’t think the column should be preachy, but should offer facts and clear up some of the confusion young men have about health issues.
Masturbation tips and tricks.
“who consider themselves ladies men”
I have no answer. THAT is crazy talk.
“and are slightly egotistical”
They need to get involved with sports.
“interested in the difference they are making in the world around them”
Again, sounds like a need to get involved then to speculated as to what they have accomplished so early in life.
Some category where subscribers can send in columns and one of them gets published each issue.
About the only thing they are interested in universally is sex, so it would be a terrible business decision not to cover that subject area.
I’m confused as to what makes you think anyone – teenage boys included – read magazines anymore. Print is a dying medium, for nearly every age bracket. The younger, the less likely to pick up a physical binding of papers to flip through.
I would call it Cos-Man-Politian
Make it like cosmo, aimed at young men.
Safe sex information done in a fun way.
I guess I’m old-school, I’d probably want something like this: http://artofmanliness.com/
Some of the things I’d like my son to learn:
Basic relf-reliance like how to budget or maintain a car
How to have self-confidence without being arrogant
How to be a gentleman/treat women respectfully
Grooming, developing your own style
Volunteering, contribute to something bigger/more important than yourself
Video game reviews and photos of hot female celebrities. I can’t imagine they’d be interested in anything else.
@downtide – Hot female celebrities with guns.
@downtide
Many of them may be interested in hot male celebrities.Think about this the next time your son checks out the hot boys in the mall.
@ragingloli That is an excellent point, but I wonder if they’d admit it in fron tof their peers? (And I don’t have a son but I check out the hot boys in the mall… )
Wondering if sport might also be a possible subject for inclusion. If it was a UK magazine it would certainly have a section on Premiership football.
And don’t forget all the nerds and geeks interested in various fields like technology, science and programming.
And above all, do not forget all the Otaku who will want plenty of pictures of hot and cute anime girls and boys of various projected ages and information on where to get the newest merchandies like dolls and figurines from Japan.
