When you get into an old thread, do you read whats going on and join in the discussion or do you just answer the original question?

Asked by roundsquare (5532points) June 21st, 2010

I ask this because sometimes an old thread will be reopened and the answer has nothing to do with the previous posts. Its usually an answer to the original question.

I read what was posted. Reading is easier than typing. If someone said what I wanted to say I don’t need to repeat them.

But also think that the site should be focused on answering the question. I’m not here for debate. I like questions and answer to those questions. Questions that have real answers. But the site has pretty much strayed from that and I spend a lot less time here.

@johnpowell Fair enough. To be honest, I am here for debate. If a question has a “real” answer I can probably google it.

either, neither and/or both. And award lurve if warranted.

I always read everything. But I do that in RL also.

It does irritate me when people pay absolutely no attention to previous answers and jump in with half-assed nonsense.

I read all of the answers and then go from there. If I feel I have a really good answer to the question that hasn’t been given yet, I’ll give my answer and then respond to the ongoing conversation if I want to do that as well.

I generally read every response and then decide if I have something to add (either to the original question or the ongoing conversation). If I’m pressed for time or something and can’t read an exceptionally long thread, but still think I have a worthwhile answer to give, I mention that I haven’t read the replies and hope I’m not repeating someone.

Depends on how much time I’ve got.
