Do you find androgyny attractive?

For anyone who doesn’t know what it means, basically a person who doesn’t necessarily fit the typical gender appearance of either a guy or a girl. It isn’t butch lesbians, and it isn’t men in drag, it is just simply someone who has an appearance that could be mistaken as one or the other.
Back to the question, I’m just wondering how many of you do or do not find this attractive, or have found it attractive at some point in your life. Attraction could be towards a male OR female regardless of your gender. A friend and I had this conversation last night and I’m curious how you guys feel :)
Thanks!

No…..“not my cup of tea!”
So far I haven’t been attracted to it. I doubt I will be in the future either.
I’m female and yes if it’s a Cillian Murphy or Tilda Swinton but no if like Pat from SNL.
If you mean like Grace Jones. Yea!
I’m a male that is a straight as my “thang” on somedays!
Yes! Ridiculously sexy! Bishounen in anime & manga, most Visual Kei artists….My lovers & I…....
“someone who has an appearance that could be mistaken as one or the other.” If by this you mean a lot of people WOULD NOT KNOW if it is male or female I find that puzzling, interesting and sometimes amusing. Not attractive.
Maybe off the subject but my voice must be androgenous if this is the case
If we’re just talking superficial, then yes. Honestly it depends more on who they are rather than what gender they appear. I would feel more comfortable saying they are visually pleasing to me, rather than being ‘attracted to’.
@ChazMaz Grace sounds like a great idea!
Examples of people I find attractive: Kyo, Die, Kaoru, Toshiya, Shinya, Ruki, Uruha, Aoi, Reita, & Kai.
Some of them, I really don’t know if they’re guys or girls!
I have found myself very attracted to beautiful men, but predominantly for that which they share with beautiful women. The more feminine the man’s appearance (assuming beauty in the first place) the more attractive I am likely to find him.
No. I would probably make the assumption that they were implants, which I do not find attractive. It does include a beautiful complexion, beautiful hair, general body hairlessness, more subcutaneous fat and less musculature than men are generally likely to have, and beautiful eyes.
@dpworkin Pretty much like the characters in my story.
The live ones or the dead ones?
@dpworkin All of them. But at least half are dead. Unless you consider vampires to be living.
Yes. I find it quite intriguing.
Annie Lennox appeared on a show recently and she’s still hot.
Isn’t that what Pink is? She is attractive, but looks like she could be a handome man as well.
No, not really, sorry. I really find the male look to be attractive.
I find it very attractive!
I do. In fact, my girlfriend dressed up for me. Very sexy.
I, myself, am going to give it a go.
Nope. I like female females. Although any of these will do. Yikes!
Not at all. I like manly men and feminine women.
I am certainly attracted to @jjmah‘s girlfriend. Too bad she’s not a guy. Wait! I mean, oh, shit, you know what I mean.
If you mean (also) by androgyn, boyish looks on a girl, then yes, i like that.
Katherine Hepburn and Amelia Earhart are pretty high on both my husband’s and my lists.
What are Gene Tierney and Veronica Lake, chopped liver?
Hey – I fucked Yvonne De Carlo!
Oh yes, some androgynous men are very attractive to me. Particularly David Bowie and Adam Lambert. Among others, I find them very sexy.
Great question (so you got a vote.) Do I find it attractive? Yes, in most cases. There are a lot of good celebrity examples already posted. A nod to David Bowie from me. And thank goodness no one has mentioned Michael Jackson, but maybe that is a bad example, since it was self-induced.
Shirley Manson can pull it off and yummingly so.
Marlene Dietrich in the Blue Angel
The fun part is loosening their tie whilst gazing into their eyes.
@jjmah Shirley Manson is definitely a hottie. I miss the 90s.
I was going to say not really until I looked at the picture jjmah posted. Wow, that is pretty hot.
Justine Frischmann (Elastica) could pull it off.
I have a bit of a crush.
@jjmah Just looked at the photo – that is a great picture. Wanna try a foursome?
Getting back to that group snuggle thread.
snuggle schmuggle
(oh, okay. snuggling’ll do).
If it’s a group thing, are there color coded ties so we don’t get an unexpected surprise or do you have to take whatever you find?
@Adirondackwannabe What are you going to put the ties on? (I have got to stop drinking Diet Coke!)
@janbb But they’re too interested in each other!
“Time for androgyny”... Not Pat.
She looks just like her bro, Jack.
@janbb It’s for the before picture. Hopefully by the time we get to your stage, I hope I can tell what to expect.
This is what i meant when i said boyish.
@rebbel That’s attractive. I think it’s a woman, but I can’t be sure. But its still attractive.
@goose756 You like females with the androgynous look or males or both?
I am very androgynous (to the point that most people simply cannot tell what gender I am until I tell them) but I’m sadly not at all attractive. I do find androgyny in others attractive though. More so in men than in women.
well I am a lesbian, I fit more into the androgynous look than my girlfriend, but I do find that some androgynous women are very attractive. Not to the point where they are super butch, but boyish indeed. I’m not attracted to men, but I do think that men with a more feminine look are more attractive.
Might be biased because I like women, but I find the muscle-y look on men is rather repulsive!
If you mean androgynous like Pat from Saturday Night Live. Than absolutely not. However a lot of the people mentioned above I feel are more one than the other and I don’t find them to be sexless. If one were to act sexless than that would mean that they tend not to show traits of either being male or female. David Bowie for instance. To me he is very much a guy. A bit pasty looking but attractive. Yoko Ono, you can tell is female only not attractive looking. Looks has more to do with it and perception of the persons gender. Where as Pat from Saturday Night Live was a real puzzle. No real indications of being one gender or the other and also not attractive to boot.
Hm. I have to admit, the types I find most attractive are
This
This
This
Oh, and This
So… it’s pretty safe to say I like my beefcake rare, with a side of baked potato.
Absolutely. I find it very attractive.
@Pandora You’ve got a point. I worked at a hotel in Chicago that had a real life Pat. Our Pat (and yes, that was the person’s name) was a maintenance worker that looked much like Pat from SNL and whose voice tone/inflection gave no clue. Pat never talked about any romantic interests.
With some of the staff dying of curiosity, one day, a co-worker set up surveillance to the employee restrooms. Pat went into the women’s room. They thought that the mystery was solved, until I pointed out that our women’s restroom consisted of enclosed stalls, which proved nothing.
I moved on to a different hotel many years ago, so the mystery still remains for me. I suppose I could ask the person who was an HR manager there at the time and is still a friend, but it just doesn’t matter. Pat did good work, was a kind person, and just preferred to keep his/her private life private.
ooo, auggie is crafting a response (and donning a dashing tie, perhaps?)
@Seek_Kolinahr Lurve for Viggo. He is definitely on my ‘list’. ;)
Apparently I’m attracted to all types. I find manly men, with rugged good looks, are probably my first choice. I’m also quite attracted to androgyny, in men or women. One of my biggest celebrity crushes is Ellen DeGeneres, but I’d take her wife, too. I’m female, if it makes a difference.
@janbb
Oh, gods, I’ve been in love with Aragorn since I was five years old. When they put him and Viggo in the same body, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. Dear Peter Jackson: I love you. Thank you!
Tis kind of perfect, isn’t it?
Best part is, my husband approves of Aragorn and Viggo. We even have a “The Two Towers” poster in the computer room, with Aragorn’s wonderful yumminess staring down at me right now.
Speaking of pretty boys and LOTR, Orlando Bloom is freaking gorgeous in those movies. Only time I’ve ever thought him attractive! I call him “my beautiful elf”. ;)
He was a good elf. Not my idea of Legolas (he was too short, and kind of a putz.), but he’ll do. I thought Haldir was dead sexy, too.
Yes. Lump me in with @Draconess25 and @Simone_De_Beauvoir and the other Bishōnen fans.
I was an American Bishōnen as a kid. But just as in Japan, age takes its toll. Today I admire those who can go there, but it is off limits for me.
Do you find androgyny attractive?
Negative.
It suits some women but I don’t find it very attractive in men.
In the Star Trek episode
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Outcast_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation)
William Riker falls in love with Soren, a member of an advanced, humanoid alien race called the J’naii. The J’naii are an androgynous species that view the expression of any sort of male or female gender, and especially sexual liaisons, as a sexual perversion. According to their official doctrine, the J’naii had evolved beyond gender and thus view the idea of male/female sexuality as primitive.
When I watched the episode I found Soren very attractive too.
That’s one of my favorite episodes. :D
There was a previous question on Fluther several months back which asked if it would be possible to have a truly genderless society.
I alluded to this very episode as I remembered it so vividly.
Even tho everything appears fine when this species is first encountered, a closer look reveals that they are as rigid as a gendered society for anyone differing from the norm.
Back to the re-education camps for you!!
It was a very thought provoking episode.
I am going to give it a go tonight. My girlfriend is going to help with the transformation. =)
@jjmah Do we get to see the results?
Yay! Can’t wait to see you in all your glory. :)
