Should I buy this plane ticket now or later?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) June 23rd, 2010

I want to go somewhere from Dec 28— Jan 4. Right now tickets are really cheap for the holiday season from $315 no booking fees.

If I wait another month or two would the price sky rocket? Only reason why I’m waiting is because I don’t have a lot of money right now. I do in my savings acct but I try to not touch it at all unless it’s an emergency.

Yeah, I would. It will likely save you money during the year, plus you won’t have to waste any time worrying about it.

I’m assuming this doesn’t put a real dent in your emergency money. If it does—perhaps better to wait just not to be put in too tight of a spot, even if it costs you more down the line.

I tried bing. No predictor

No, not a big dent. I just hate taking money out of there lol. But I have a feeling that it’ll rise up and I don’t want to take the chance. I might spend more than I intend to….

buy them now.
the price can be unpredictable and if they are currently low then I would go for it.

Buy them now. Almost always, they go way up real soon. You can probably buy insurance on those tickets for another $20 (either thru them or from a travel agency website), which makes the tickets refundable if you cannot make the trip.

And let us know if they bait and switch you, suddenly deciding to raise the rates while you are doing your transaction.

I think buy them now if you are sure of your dates. Gas is kind of cheap right now (supposedly so we don’t get too upset about the oil spill) so it is probably likely fuel prices might go up in the future, which could add to the cost. I doubt the prices wil come down for your flight since it is over Chrstmas and New Years. If it was for some date that had no general significance I would say go ahead and wait.

Doesn’t Orbitz.com have that thing that if someone else later books the same flight as you but gets it cheaper, they refund you the extra money? Might be worth looking into.

Buy it now. The peace of mind of not having to think about it and watch the prices is worth at least the $30 you could possibly save.

Hard to give advice without knowing which city you are starting and ending at. Go for it if you think the price is good.

The sooner the cheaper for airline tickets. if you can fly Southwest, they have no baggage fees. just returned from Seattle. bought the tickets three months early. by doing this, our seats on the plane were upfront and we saved about 40%, compared to three months later.

For some reason I never find good deals on Southwest

@chelle21689, now if you can just do the same with buying stocks, you can get rich.
