Why didn't nature provide better protection for the testicles?

Shouldn’t natural selection have resulted in an armored scrotum or some kind of protection? And why does getting smacked in the testes result in overwhelming pain anyway?

If you had better protection, you’d be complaining about not having easy access. You just can’t win.
I think hamsters have a pretty nice set up. They can pull them inside at will.
I heard the existing location was for temperature regulation. I’d go with a hard shell with cooling fins.
@AstroChuck And why does getting smacked in the testes result in overwhelming pain anyway?
Because we need them to be in perfect working order if we’re to continue species propagation. Their hypersensitivity forces us to carefully avoid even the slightest injury to the entire groin area.
The testes need to be outside the abdomen so the swimmers stay cool enough.
@FutureMemory
That’s exactly what my 7th grade science teacher told me. :) I remember during sex ed I asked “why are they so sensitive?” :P
If slugs had shells, they’d be turtles.
If we could just pull them inside at will, we’d be hamsters.
Humans: so far, so good… just the way we are.
They are there to keep men in line.
Ahh the agony & the exctacy. As michelangelo was portrayed.Or was it Donatello, well one of the ninja turtles anyways.
That would be an awfully small bicycle seat if we had armor plating on the boys there @AstroChuck! Not sure which would be more painful….a teeny tiny bike seat or a smash in the nads.
Because when we women grab them and twist them we want it to hurt.
So not as many women need the anti-rape condom.
Because viable sperm production is closely related to the temperature at which the testes are held. Your boys need air.
You do. It is your self defense mechanism and the two legs that surround them.
Every part of our body has a “flaw” to its protection. As @dpworkin stated, those babies need to breath.
@worriedguy is right about the temperature regulation thing. Sperm production requires a cooler temperature than your internal body temp.
Soo… if the scrotum was inside the body… you might only be born with a certain amount of sperm and then every time you ejaculate you lose sperm count because your body can’t reproduce them. LOL… I’m not sure if that’s exactly right but I think I’m on the right track.
@zenele:If slugs had shells, they’d be snails.
Because for humans it doesn’t make much of a difference. Same as all the defunct olfactory receptor genes in our genomes. Hamsters need to pull Mr. Winky and family inside. Wolves need superior smelling abilities. Humans don’t. What matters is a large cerebral cortex, bipedalism and human hands. Combine all three and your balls will get all the protection they need – safe for a few exceptions of course. Ouch.
@zenele: Any self-respecting turtle would consider it a snail.
So we men can be men and rule the world!! Brouuhahahahahha!!!@Adirondackwannabe Anti-rape condom?? Lol!
