Should i join as a TACP or A-10 Crew Chief?

Asked by superneil21 (383points) June 25th, 2010

Ok so one of these 2 will be what I’am doing for the next 6 years TACP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_Air_Control_Party or Crew Chief working on A-10s. I know the TACP is much more physical and mentally intense but also much more rewarding. But my main goal is get my bachelors degree and try to be an A-10 pilot. I guess what im asking is what do you think would make becoming a pilot easier? I just need help deciding which one. And the TACP has a $20,000 bonus.
BTW im 18 right out of high School and going to college this fall.

Josie votes for TACP. You finish that program and get experience and you will be able to write your ticket.

As a crew chief you’ll have more time to do your college work. As TACP you’ll have more awesome opportunities. You’ll need to have college done before you go fly. If you are going for “cool,” go for TACP, if you want to fly, be an A-10 wrench until you get your degree, then get commissioned. Good luck to you either way!

You should consider ROTC. You will get your degree, commissioned, and have a good paying job waiting for you when you graduate. You could start flight school right after graduation. You should be aware of the commitment that pilot training entails. When I was commissioned, flight school added an additional 7 year commitment (for 11 total).
