Is Saints Row like GTA:SA?

Asked by HungryGuy (16044points) June 27th, 2010

I play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas often, but would like to try similar games just to see the differences. Is Saints Row basically the same game by a different developer? What are the biggest differences between the two games?

I have played both & the one major difference, is the amount of fine tune polish that Rockstar gives to each of their games. Saints Row is buggy. You will run into at least 1 glitch/bug every time you play. It’s not as well developed in the landscape, but for a budget GTA-esque game, Saints Row is pretty good.

One thing I really enjoyed about Saints Row, is the amount of customization you can give to your character. GTA is all about playing the lead character & only being able to change their clothes a little bit. Saints Row lets you create the character, very much like The Sims create-a-sim part of the game.

I recommend it, but only because you have already played GTA & are looking for something different. Which was what I did. For people having never played either, I would say skip Saints Row & pay a little more for GTA.

Enjoy the game, it’s fun. But you will always have thoughts of GTA in the back of your head while you play Saints Row. You can’t help it…GTA will always remain on top in terms of these types of games.

Thanks! I was wondering why nobody hardly ever talks about Saints Row as much as GTA, even though they’re basically the same game. Now I know why. Does Saints Row come with a level editor to change the city around and/or add or customize the missions?

I don’t believe there is a level editor or much customization when it comes to that part of gameplay. I don’t think I finished beating the game… as I installed Saints Row as a time filler before GTA4, which GTA4 along with the expansion packs, was just an absolute thrill to play & left Saints Row in the dust. :) But still, Saints Row is a good/fun game that would do great in a world without Rockstar/GTA.

Heads up, in case you haven’t already bought Saints Row 2… It’s available on Steam (Valve’s gaming program) on sale for $7.49, but only for the next 20 min. You better hurry!

Steam? Yuck! I hate Steam! Unless they improved it when it came with Half Life a few years ago, it consumes vast amounts of CPU and RAM, even when I’m not playing any games, and I subsequently uninstalled it after I finished Half Life and no longer need it. But thanks for the heads up!

Steam has improved over the past few updates, but I am on a Mac, so my gaming options are: Steam…. or nothing at all.

I see. I rarely use my PC for gaming. I do most of my gaming on a console so I don’t have to worry about compatibility or upgrading constantly. The few PC games I play absolutely require a keyboard and mouse, like Flight Simulator, Train Simulator, and The Sims.
