Do you think we should have avatars in the chat room?

I think it would be cool to have our avatars show up in the chat room. What do you think?

I think it would be helpful.

I don’t think we should.

As much as I’d like to see your face more, that’d be too complex.
I like how simple it is now.

Sarcasm's avatar

I think that would only clutter up the chatroom unnecessarily.

No. We already lost some space when the chat room switched from Campfire to a native chat room. Avatars would probably mean each line would take up more space to accommodate the picture. I think Fluther names are identification enough.

Or, we could, you know, just have the pictures in the sidebar.

don’t really see it being a big deal myself!

@Allie What was the campfire format? That sounds cool. :)

No because it can give an idea of what you look like towards other people, and also there might be people in the chatroom that you dont know and don’t like, so why give them an idea of what you look like. Plus they take too long to create.

I also agree with @Sarcasm

@astrix24 That’s not a good reason. People can easily click your name to see your avatar.

That would cause lag in chat so no.

@Arisztid I doubt that. The icons are a whopping 4kb in size on average. It takes no time for them to load into cache and once they’re there… They won’t slow things down.

@silverfly It was pretty much the same layout, but the chat box where it shows what people are saying was bigger, so more of the conversations showed up. It was really nice when the convo was moving fast and each line was getting pushed further up the screen. The bigger space meant you didn’t have to scroll up as often to see what you missed.

@Allie Gotcha. I thought of campfire as a kind of circular layout. That could be cool in theory, but I don’t think it would be programmatically possible.
