If you want to see for yourself there are two videos up on You Tube. Just put the words BIONIC VET into the search bar. The second one goes into some detail. The first just shows him walking around.
You lucky folks across the pond get to see the full documentary about it on BBC.
This cat was run over by a combine and had both back feet severed. This British Vet did a procedure termed “intra-osseous” implant, the first of its kind on a cat.
I thought it was interesting that it was the back feet which are so integral to cats’ ability to jump. The entire idea is pretty fascinating.
If anyone knows an Internet source for those of us not in the UK to watch the full documentary, “Bionic Vet” please post a link. Thanks.

I watched the two videos on You Tube and I think it’s really great what they were able to do. I would also like to see the documentary if anyone knows where or how to get it.
Here is some information about the documentary,
The Bionic Vet is on BBC 1 at 2245 BST on Wednesday 30 June 2010.
I’ll post again when I find out more information.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I get sad whenever I see something like that. It’s not pity… its more of a projection of how I’d feel if I had to deal with the disability. I’d be so insanely depressed.
But I’m also relieved they were able to help Oscar, who is a beautiful soul and a beautiful cat. And I love the fact that some scientists and some people will go that far to help a cat.
And I also realize more would, if they were able to.
I have to admit that my favorite part of that whole video is the vets trying to get the cat to not jump and climb on his first ever walk. There is, apparently, such thing as ‘too successful’.
I love it, and the work done on Oscar will have a good ripple effect, for humans and animals.
