My remote control for my garage door has stopped working. Any ideas as to what is wrong with it?

Asked by chyna (51598points) June 29th, 2010

I changed the batteries but it still doesn’t work. The garage door does open from the button inside the garage. What else could be wrong with it?

Sometimes when you change the batteries, the recognition code needs to be reset. If you don’t know how, you can Google your brand for its manual.

Does it matter that I used two different brands of batteries?

dpworkin's avatar

No. As long as they were all fresh. It’s not a good idea to mix stale batteries with fresh ones, but even that doesn’t kill things.

Ok, thanks. Freaking new technology, hmmpf!

Do you have more than one remote by any chance?

This happened to me recently and my landlord said it was due just to what pd mentioned. Now everything is back to normal.

@sleepdoc Yes I do have two remotes, but my brother has the other one so he can get in if I need things fixed. I will get that one from him if I can’t get this one to work.

I was just going to recommend trying it to see if it is your remote or the receiver.

I’m meeting up with him in a bit to get it, so I’ll know then.
Why can’t these things be easy?

They are… as long as they are working right.

Try unplugging it.. Wait… Then plug it in again…Might just need to be re-set so to speak.

There’s a plug on my garage door opener? I know, not on the remote, but on the one in the garage? I’ll have to look.

2nd remote works. I’m using it now.

@dpworkin I’m a happy camper now.
