What's your favorite play by Shakespeare?
I act, and I love to act in Shakespeare’s plays especially. Where I live we do Shakespeare in the Park every summer. In fact, this is our thirty-third year for doing so. This summer we’re doing Love’s Labour’s Lost. The language is resplendent.
I’ve been trying to think about whether or not I have a favorite play of his, but I can’t decide. Hamlet would be in the top 3 along with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I love King Lear.
Among the lesser known plays, Love’s Labour’s Lost has quickly become my favorite. It has beautiful language, some funny characters, probably Shakespeare’s most bawdy banter, and love. But all that may be due to the fact that I’m surrounded by it this summer.

Well, you named my top two favorites. Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. But it is really hard to pick one. When I think about the others, I feel sad that I left them off my list too.
Probably King Lear for the dramatic plays and A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the comedies, though when the recent David Tennant-Patrick Stewart version of Hamlet was on PBS, I enjoyed that a lot.
What ever I saw last at the RSC or Globe. (So at the moment it’s the Scottish play).

Much Ado About Nothing. It’s funny, I like the twists and turns and the trickery involved, there are quite a few funny lines and situations, but it all works out in the end.
@MissAnthrope Ooo. Love that one, too. I love the fire between Benedick and Beatrice. It’s said by some scholars that Much Ado About Nothing is the answer to Love’s Labour’s Lost.
@hawaii_jake – I’m not always good with describing my feelings about things, so thanks for wording that for me. Yeah, I love the fire, the animosity, the passion, that thing between Benedick and Beatrice. It’s kinda hot, kinda funny, very enjoyable to watch.
I too am a fan of the play about the little pig; you know, Hamlet!
I love the subplots!
The Tempest.

I love Macbeth. I just really love the drama of it. And the witches. Definitely love the witches.
I’m with @Iclamae. I love Macbeth. Lady Macbeth, in particular, is a fascinating character.
Hamlet. It is a perfect story. It is one of the 5 stories I adore (the others being Pinocchio, The Odyssey, A Christmas Carol, and Harry Potter).

I think King Lear might be my favorite. But I do love those Scots.
My least favorite is Romeo & Juliet. No contest. Ugh.
Hamlet inspired me to start giving swimming lessons to young girls . . . .
I’d definately have to say that my favourite is Taming of the Shrew. I first saw it when I was a freshman and I couldn’t help but fall in love.
I love Titus, it is very dark and unusual.
