Does a women's taste-buds change during pregnancy? Is it permanent?

Hello everyone!
I’m about 10 weeks pregnant right now and have noticed a pretty big change in my taste-buds and what I “crave”. I absolutely loved chocolate and salty snacks like chips; but now, since being pregnant I have been craving sour candies and meat, lots and lots of red meat. Before I couldn’t stand sour candies and ate little to no red meat; now I can’t even think about eating chocolate or chips without getting queasy :(
Now, I’m not complaining because heck I’m craving the stuff so I’m enjoying it! However, I’m curious if this is a normal occurrence during pregnancy and if it’s permanent or once the pregnancy is over I’ll return back to “normal”.
I know women go through cravings and such, but full on taste-bud changes?

It’s normal, and your taste buds will revert back when your hormone levels revert back to normal.
Having both cravings and loathings is very common during pregnancy. I, for example, found red meat abhorrent and lusted after milkshakes due to heartburn. (It was a girl).
And with both pregnancies (a boy also) I never had morning sickness. Go figure.
The odd food urges will disappear after you have given birth. I would not equate it so much to taste buds as to cravings. Your taste buds remain the same physically.

@gailcalled : I wish I didn’t have morning sickness! Although, mine is a more of an all-day sickness and it’s just being queasy, I have only been sick once since. Thanks for your GA also :)
Most of the cravings/dislikes I had during pregnancy went away after each of my kids were born. I was very happy about it, because when I was pregnant for the second time I couldn’t stand coffee. The taste, the smell, the thought of drinking it, made me feel so sick. Normally I am a coffee fiend, and happily I was able to enjoy coffee again after my son was born.
I also used to hate Italian sausage. My husband loves it, and his dad is known for making incredible sausage with peppers and onions. I never liked it, but when I was pregnant for the second time I couldn’t get enough of that stuff. My son is now almost 7 and I still love that sausage. I cook it about once a week!
Over the course of three pregnancies, I went through cravings for fresh fruit and felt sick at the thought of anything greasy or very sweet. With my daughter, I threw up whenever I didn’t eat at the first sign of hunger. With my two boys, I felt sick most of the time for the first trimester, but never actually threw up. Each time, there were different foods I liked/didn’t like, and the only time I had bad heartburn was the first pregnancy.
My mother-in-law says the only food she could keep down when she was pregnant was her mother-in-law’s extremely greasy Italian cooking!
My stomach ruled my diet. As @gailcalled stated I had both cravings (sour things just like you) and things I couldn’t stomach.
Morning sickness is a bit of misnomer. It happens all day long.
I don’t know if it’s hormonal, but seems likely. Things did taste differently to me during the first pregnancy. I made and ate banana pudding constantly. After that baby was born I didn’t want banana pudding for about ten years.
Oh, I craved cinnamon and plain soda… like seltzer with a bit of lemon. I also couldn’t stand the smell of wine, but acquired a taste for beer. The strong cravings for cinnamon and soda left, but now I can drink beer where before I really didn’t care for it, and I can’t drink spirits at all now, where as, before, I enjoyed a cognac or single malt.
I think some of the more subtle things can be permanent but I think the strong cravings will go. It really is hormonal.
When I was pregnant, I craved reese’s peanut butter cups or anything with peanut butter and chocolate. I also started to like ranch dressing and tuna fish for the first time ever (I had really disliked them before getting pregnant). I still like ranch dressing and tuna fish now. I still like my reese’s too, but I don’t crave them anymore.
I craved anything sour with my daughter. Lemon drops, Lemon Mike and Ike’s, salt and vinegar chips. Someone told me once that lemon is good for nausea, so I think that’s why I craved it. Later in my pregnancy I craved watermelon and Taco Bell Taco Salads. I also craved lots and lots of vegetables. I would just eat a can of green beans and a can of corn for dinner and it was the best thing I ever ate. I always thought my body probably needed it, so that’s why I wanted a lot of veggies.
I also wouldn’t have eaten a green pepper on a dare before I was pregnant. But during that pregnancy, I would eat them like apples. And that never changed. I love them to this day.
I think the cravings are linked to things we need. I probably needed Manganese (cinnamon) and Magnesium (a high content in the sparkling mineral water I was craving and drank by the bucket loads) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farris_(mineral_water) I wasn’t craving just ‘any’ sparkling water… it HAD to be this sort. Odd. Our bodies are truly amazing, ladies. We make new little humans! Wow.
