Copy text... When it isn't allowed >.>

Asked by istand1337 (51points) March 19th, 2008

I need to get the “federalism da” from this pdf document: http://www.wcdebate.com/00sampleproducts/pol-neg-2006.pdf
Password wc

The file blocks copy pasting… Any ideas of how to get a ten page block out of it? The best idea I have is screen shot and print, but I didn’t want that backround image and I wanted to include it as part of another file.

The password is online, so don’t worry about that.

Not sure if you’re on a Mac or not, but if you were, this is what I would do.

• Open the document,
• Print as PDF
• Copy/Paste from the new PDF

The print dialog prints the document as it is printing to paper, and the Macintosh PDF algorithim is different from the standard one (not by much though).

Three options:

1. Just transcribe it. I suspect that you will spend more time attempting to get the file into a readable form that it would take to just transcribe it into a new document.

2. Contact the WC Publishing and ask them if you can get a plaintext version of that section for whatever purpose you’re trying to use it for. They might charge you for it, but how much is your time worth?

3. Print, scan, and OCR the document. Will be tough with that background, but the background is somewhat a funny color, you might be able to filter it if you scan it with a yellow filter infront of it. You will spend a lot of time changing 1’s to I’s.
