Meta Question

anartist's avatar

How many of you are willing to admit that you have more than one Fluther account [not WHAT it is but whether you do]?

Asked by anartist (14813points) July 8th, 2010

I have seen mention of asking a question under another account. Sometimes that may be a cautious and useful thing to do, as over time, people know each other pretty well on Fluther, and maybe the question is too sensitive. Maybe this side of yourself you would rather conceal. Maybe you are just curious what it feels like.

@marinelife well, scratch one out of several thousand. :-))

syz's avatar

So far, I haven’t felt the need.

CMaz's avatar

I did for a day.

anartist's avatar

@syz thanks for weighing in. Maybe I should have specified “those who do..’
BTW what is it you have to do with that pretty tiger in your picture on Photobucket? Are you a tiger behaviorist or something?

@ChazMaz why only one day? Is your other account officially dead?

anartist's avatar

[removed by secret account holders so they will stay secret]

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

Most of the accounts on Fluther are run by me and my multiple personalities. Yes yes I do enjoy arguing with myself so. I hate it when I have to ban myself, but best to run the rascals out!

I wonder who I’ll use to say what next?

I think I’ll be Chaz.

CMaz's avatar

I provided information to an answer. And, did not want to expose “ChazMaz” that much.

I don’t know if it is dead. I just used it and walked away.

rebbel's avatar

If you had put: “Those who do”, you would not have seen me here now.

zenele's avatar

Nope. You know I close and restart all over.

CMaz's avatar

@zenele – You are one good looking man. ;-)

casheroo's avatar

No, I do not.

anartist's avatar

awww @rebbel I woulda missed you
oh wow! @zenele in drag!

cookieman's avatar

Nope. And while I know some jellies do this to maintain anonymity, I feel that if I can’t answer something honestly as me*, then I’ll just skip the question.

*Of course, being a giant cookie already offers a certain amount of anomymity.

downtide's avatar

I don’t. I would rather have all the lurve for myself, not share it with another account. :-D

CMaz's avatar

That’s a man baby!

anartist's avatar

I’ll admit I do if it makes it any easier for others to weigh in.
@zenele not questioning the honesty of any replies, just wondering who I haven’t heard from

zenele's avatar

No need – I say what I mean – I mean what I say. Lurve I could care less about. So – what for?

Lurve you guys. ZEN OUT

Coloma's avatar

I only have the one..something I have been confused about with a few, like @zenele

Whats the point of reopening an account as a new member and changing your name?

Eh…don’t really care…but noticed the trend amongst a few.

I am not attached to the scoring of points, if anything it reminds me how much time I have spent here this last 4 months…lol

A community of verbose wunderkinds..no surprise I fit in so well. haha

Likeradar's avatar

I do. I used it once, for one question about something extremely private.
I’m Facebook friends with some jellies, and the question was something I don’t want people who know where I live, what I do, etc. to know about.

FutureMemory's avatar

My other account name is Vunessuh.

SuperMouse's avatar

I have a second Fluther identity.

Lightlyseared's avatar

I don’t. Too much effort pretending to be two different people.

Coloma's avatar

@Lightlyseared

I agree…I’ve got my hands full just being myself. lol

augustlan's avatar

I have a few. One is a joke account, used only in very specific situations. The other one (or is it two?) I use mainly because my children (teenagers) are members here. They don’t need to know everything about their mommy. ;)

BoBo1946's avatar

Only one active account! will not divulge anymore in-fo-ma-tion!

jonsblond's avatar

@augustlan Are you Sarah Palin? ;)

anartist's avatar

@augustlan my second is also a joke account for very specific situations. :-)

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

I have one account. My brother-in-law has one account to which I know the password and he has no problem letting me use it when I need to chime in from a, uh, different perspective. I do try to answer in his voice and do not espouse views that he would find repugnant. I like playing a man every now and again, although it’s been ages. BTW, he is thelonemonk. I doubt anyone knows of him but he has been here as a lurker since almost the beginning. He got me hooked.

anartist's avatar

@Sueanne_Tremendous does @theloniousmonk ever use his account? I have never seen him.

chels's avatar

I used to.

whatthefluther's avatar

Many months ago, I created @flutherthewhat to have some fun on one specific question, found it useful on a couple others within the following several days, but have since not returned.
See ya…...Gary/wtf (aka yraG/ftw)

zenele's avatar

My other account car is a Volvo.

Seriously?

Ask Auggie or Andrew – they can see IP addresses etcetera; if one has another account – as @auggie mentioned, for personal or joke or whatever reasons – it’s nobody’s business. Like email accounts – one can have several. My work email is different from my first email for friends and family.

Here – I loved just chatting with people.

The lurve was just something you click on under your friend’s post. Then came the awards and the never ending Community Feed bouncing away to the right of my screen – where I have almost no vision at all.

I have actually (now) gotten used to it – and because of the time difference – am often on here practically alone – just asking and answering (my own) questions. ~

The feed allows me to see change: if someone gets a GQ, etcetera.

But the place had become so obsessed with “winning awards” @coloma to answer your query; every F5 refresh – there would be this award and frizzer and babby and merlin award and then guppy and tadpole and whatever – and 5k and 10k – it made me literally seasick. Being colour-blind with poor vision – everything that bounces on the screen can make me sick. That’s why I prefer emails to anything else.

So in protest and I pmed Ben and spoke about it a lot here (it’s hard to “look up” deleted accounts’ questions – but they are still around – Zen, NewZen, Zen_Again, Zen – something). I have asked about 500 questions, at alast count. Approximately.

The awards, the colours and fast pace – it became like a video game. In December of 2009 – all the Ab-ers came in – (bless them – they’re really cool the ones who’ve stayed on)which was nice but… they used the site to ask all kinds of Questions – and the place became a video game with LOL and Date qustions – and lurve parties. Many of them were smart and funny of course, I mean because of the tremendous influx and starting out questions – which is natural and I went throught it too when I first joined – I really couldn’t keep up. So I changed evrey so often to avoid lurve parties, and awards and silly things. It was also fun (secretly, now) to be able to give lurve to friend’s again whom you have maxed out on – for those who actually care about lurve ~) ;-)

So – I quit a couple of times – explaingin why each time – and pmed my friends about the name change.

Picard stayed, Zen appears is in the name.

Now then – shall I stay zenele – I think so. (Supermouse has a question with the odds in favour of my changing again before 10k)

I am at peace with this new format – I think Andrew and Ben and Tim have done a wonderful job with the site – Social and General and Meta – it’s perfect.

To paraphrase the great A A Milne; Now I am six I’m as clever as clever (astrochuck?)
So I think I shall stay zenele now – forever and ever.

:-)

anartist's avatar

@zenele here or on Second Life?

Jude's avatar

I do, although, I haven’t used it in awhile (used it for a few sex questions).

zenele's avatar

Never been to second life @anartist – I have only read about it. I am afraid to go there – and get sucked in.

anartist's avatar

@zenele aww you’d probably be bored. I was.

gemiwing's avatar

Yes, I do. I have only asked one, maybe two, questions on it. I keep this name as one of my online identities, the other name is for different sites but I was asking for that ‘side’ of myself- if that makes any damn sense I’ll bake a cake. i need sleep

anartist's avatar

@gemiwing a cake? the cake fluther keeps promising us?

augustlan's avatar

@jonsblond Bite your tongue, woman!

mattbrowne's avatar

I definitely have just ONE Fluther account.

Your_Majesty's avatar

I have more than one in each QandA sites(Don’t ask. All for good intention). That is all I can tell you.

gemiwing's avatar

@anartist no, this is a special cake. one made from rainbows and unicorn whiskers

BoBo1946's avatar

it is all over town that someone here is “yanking our chain!”

BoBo1946's avatar

@anartist loll…ummm….the guilty always speak first!

anartist's avatar

@ChazMaz your comment to @zenele looks odd now that he is no longer in drag.
Or maybe a little less odd. Now I am confused.

anartist's avatar

@BoBo1946 speak for yourself

BoBo1946's avatar

@anartist loll…hey, the only person i can speak for my friend, is myself!

wilma's avatar

I don’t have more than one account, but I’ve thought about getting another.

anartist's avatar

@BoBo1946 why are you laughing out loud loud? so we can’t help but near you you.

anartist's avatar

@wilma it can make life interesting.
Think if we all had 2 accounts, but could only play one at a time, Fluther’s numbers would double without double the work.

BoBo1946's avatar

@anartist just having fun my friend! but, i will be quieter!

anartist's avatar

@BoBo1946 good dog Spunky. I have a friend I want you to meet.

BoBo1946's avatar

Cute dog….Callie’s disposition in the pic reminds me of my ex wife!

BoBo1946's avatar

now, that is precious!

NRO's avatar

I am much too busy observing for such games

BoBo1946's avatar

@NRO the games people play! Observing is fun!

cookieman's avatar

Just thinking that this thread oughta make the paranoid amongst us feel a whole lot better.~

BoBo1946's avatar

@cprevite i know, you are trying to get me!

NRO's avatar

paranoia? why would that be? it really isn’t worth your time.

Austinlad's avatar

I confess—I used to have an alter ego on Fluther whose advice and opinions I often made very different from thAustinlad. I liked my alter, but after a while, it got to be too hard to keep track of myselves so I killed him.

NRO's avatar

@Austinlad Killed him dead? Cleared him from the servers with Ben and Andrew’s assistance, or just let him fade away like an old soldier?

nikipedia's avatar

I have another (poorly hidden) account, not to disguise myself from Fluther members, but to avoid the real-life people mentioned in the questions from reading them.
