How do I make a brown and white bedroom theme?

Asked by Moxy (182points) July 11th, 2010

I have light brown cupboards and white cupboards in my small bedroom. I have blue walls also. I have a black and gold quilt and sky blue walls and gold curtains. Please help what colour quit and curtains should I get?

I like a calm and almost empty bedroom because I have lots of windows and skylights. At night I love being able to look at the heavens. During the day I have a spectacular view of woods, fields and the tips of the Catskill mountains.

So I painted walls Navajo white, have an off-white duvet cover, off-white mini-blinds, pine floors, several oriental rugs and some antique pine furniture. I have no closet so use an antique painted armoire from Alsace-Lorraine. Here

It’s been done to death, but in spite of that, I love the brown/blue color combination that’s been popular for the last few years.

Are the light brown cabinets a warm or cool shade? You could change the wall color to an earthtone that compliments the cabinets or you could paint or stain the cabinets to a color you like. The most popular wood colors are deep cherry which is warm or deep brown, a cool color. Either will work with the colors in the comforter you already have and even better if you paint the walls. Gold sheers anchored by a heavier curtain panel on either end of the windows is easy to do.

Ikea has some nice duvet covers that would work well with blue/white/light blue:

This one could be fun if you treat the walls as sky:

This comes the closest to your original color scheme, and should look really good with blue walls:

It sounds like you have two different color schemes going in your room, black/ gold and brown/ white/ blue. The easiest thing to change out is the bedspread and the curtains. Since your walls are already blue, you could get curtains and bedclothes in brown or white for contrast, and then maybe some blue accent pillows for your bed. If you want to continue the color scheme, some sepia-toned photographs in mahogany frames would probably look great against your walls.

What are the dimensions of the room? If it is small, you don’t want too much crowding and too many distractions. But, it is your room. Try things out. If you don’t like the results, you can change things.

Take a cue from the Fluther logo and get a brown quilt with a turquoise blue jellyfish :)

I would suggest some nice cream- or dark blue-colored curtains perhaps, and funky bedspread something like this – http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/192-2706181-3282802?asin=B002IB2EIA&AFID=Froogle_df&LNM=|B002IB2EIA&CPNG=home&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

Well since you mention brown, this is what i did with my bedroom. I painted the wall behind my bed dark brown (some kind of chocolate colour) and the other walls a very very light shade of brown (it doesn’t even look brown). My curtains are dark brown and my bedding shades of beige, dark brown etc in it to match the room. The cupboards are white with light wood trim around the edges, but that’s the way they were when we moved here. And then the furniture is dark wood too. I chose these colours because i love chocolate. :)
So your gold curtains match with brown, you can leave them there.

I see a beige – or brown bedspread. I like chenille.
