How do you really like your pizza?

Asked by charliecompany34 (7813points) July 14th, 2010

now depending on what corner of the nation you’re in, it could go from flat to deep to square to thin to triangular, but pizza seems to be loved only by the locals where its geographically offered.

chicago, new york, L.A.—it’s all interpreted differently based on the region. pizza lovers, you can come out the closet now. and how do they do it in the south? or southeast?

how do you like your pizza?

Super thin crispy crust is essential. The ingredients on the top are of my choosing, but the crust is critical to my enjoyment! This is from a midwesterner who really cares about her pie!

I like a thick crust, but not deep dish. Thin crust is okay, but just.
I like extra sauce, and a combination.
Anchovies welcome, but not required.

@Kayak8 i hear that a lot. that the crust is crucial. i’m a sauce and cheese man, but yeah i could see how crust plays a major part. in some regions its dry and thin and others buttery and oily like pie crust.

they say if you fold it like a sandwich it aint pizza. and if you need a knife and fork it aint pizza either…

@charliecompany34 The crust is the thing man. There are days a deep dish is remotely interesting, but for the regular Friday night pie, thin is in!

@Kayak8 in chicago, the pizza houses on the near north side and loop have lines of people waiting for a table to eat deep-dish pizza. when in chicago, a friday night out is all about the pie. we have to have it this way. there is no other way.

In the south, a pizza that stands up and salutes. a pizza thats absolutely loaded with everything in the kitchen, except those salty fish. the cheese has to stretch at least a foot and the crust to be thin and crispy.

The best pizza i have ever bought, came on top of a pedestal cake plate at an unknow pizza parlor close to Nashville. the cheese was so thick that i almost strangled on it. never had one like it ever again.

I like pretty much all styles but my ingredients when I am with my partner Jenn are:
Cheese
Onion
Green Pepper
Sausage
Tomato

When I am on the road I have a “I dare you to kiss me” Pizza that is onion, garlic, sausage and anchovies.

@john65pennington see, the cheese dont stretch that far here in chicago. i mean it stretches to some extent, but something about pizza up here makes pizza just “bite-able” and then you go to the next piece. it can be in squares too and it just slides off the crust into your mouth.

Deep dish meat lovers with extra cheese and garlic sauce to dip the crust in. :-) Now I want a pizza.

oh and this too: if you think “pizza hut” is pizza, you might as well get a cheeseburger and fries from that place with the golden arches.

I don’t have a preference as far as thin crust or deep dish.. as long as it is GOOD crust. I like mine with light sauce (as in: not a lot of sauce), spinach, black olives and broccoli and cauliflower. Sometimes I switch it up for pepperoni, though.

charliecompany34's avatar

@Seaofclouds I KNOW!!! now i want pizza. i can either make it right now or order it, but i am definitely thinking pizza. i can eat a whole medium cheese pizza all by myself. i hate it when i order my own special medium cheese pizza and everybody else wants to just have a piece or “try it” when the family-size sausage pizza is RIGHT THERE!

For me, simple is best. Cheese on a regular crust i(f the crust is good), thin crust if not… sometimes with pepperoni and black olives.

I also like Greek-style with feta and tomatoes.

‘Scuse me while I go order a pizza.

Olives, peppers, jalapeƱos, lots of cheese.

With a lot of spicy ingredients on it.

I like good thin crust, well seasoned tomato sauce, good mozzarella cheese on top (had to laugh @john65pennington when you said you almost choked on it – I don’t like it that thick), I also like a couple of black olives, fresh basil, sometimes a little onion or peperoni, but no more. In Australia they pile it up with pineapple, bacon, ham, anything out of the ocean. Not my kind of pie for sure.

Dr_Lawrence's avatar

Thick, New York Style, with lots of vegetables, well seasoned sauce, sausage, pepperoni, olives
no ham, hamburger, cheddar cheese, meatballs, pineapple, etc

I like mine thick base (probably what you’d call deep or deep pan?). Other than that, i like it extra cheesy, and i like fresh tomato on there, and mushrooms have to be on there. I don’t like green peppers as their taste is overpowering to me and ruins the pizza tastes. When i’m in the mood, pineapple is nice too. Oh yes, and onion makes it super tasty also.

thin crust…..mushrooms,olives

Facade's avatar

I like Pizza Hut’s stuffed crust. Just cheese, please. OK ok, go ahead and tell me how horrible that is

NaturallyMe's avatar

@Facade – ok, it’s horribly delicious.

Now you all went south with toppings . . . I will take pesto sauce, shrimp, artichoke hearts and pine nuts on a thin crust any day!
