@john65pennington John, i’ve several of his cd’s and love to listen to him. He is truly a funny guy!

I’m a huge fan of Kathy Griffin.
I watched the video but I just don’t find him funny at all…maybe it’s a generational thing.

BoBo1946's avatar

@Fly probably so….if you watch a lot of his stuff, you might change your mind.

Dog's avatar

Mitch Hedburg and Robin Williams.

BoBo1946's avatar

@Dog oh, Ms Doubtfire….that is one of the funniest movies i’ve ever watched!

BoBo1946's avatar

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies yes, he is funny and one cool dude!

Stand Up: George Carlin
Comedic Actor: Dick van Dyke (in his heyday)
Comedy Team: Abbot and Costello
Sketch: Carol Burnett (thanks BoBo for reminding me)

and no – I’m not that old. I just have old taste.

BoBo1946's avatar

Love Tim Conway also….

Dog's avatar

@cprevite- I forgot Carlin!

@Bobo That is a classic.:) I also love his stand- up.

BoBo1946's avatar

@Dog yeah, i’ve watched that one several times….can only think of a few movies that i’ve watched more than once.

Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett come to mind as comedic icons of the past.

I’d love to find some old Carol Burnett shows on DVD.

I also loved the old Beverly Hillbillies series, have all those on DVD. What a great line up of laughs.

Modern comedians would include Gilda Radner, and the SNL crew.

I am sure there are others whose names escape me.

I am terrible with remembering names of artists I like. lol

Aster's avatar

Sinbad, Bill Maher (I never can spell his name)and Chris Rock. maybe I’m on the wrong thread

BoBo1946's avatar

@Aster it would be correct..he is funn!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Tim conway, cracking up Harvey was hysterical. I loved the conjoined elephant skit, where the elephants were joined at the trunk, or where he played the old gunfighter.

Aster's avatar

@BoBo1946 “IT would be correct?” Wat?
Look up the comedian’s net worth and you’ll see who’s good.

Eddie Izzard is my absolute favourite stand-up comedian.

My taste in humour is pretty Oxbridge, on the whole, I can’t lie. I won’t go on with a list of all the British comedians I like.

But I am a hyuuuuge fan of The Kids in the Hall, Monty Python, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross from Mr. Show, Billy Connelly, Jennifer Saunders, Bill Bailey, Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle and pre-tranny pick-up Eddie Murphy (it’s as if he tried to make everyone forget he did that by doing a lot of crappy movies, but Eddie… listen: no one is ever going to forget you did that!).

BoBo1946's avatar

@aprilsimnel Richard’s mannerisms were very funny!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Buddy Hacket also did an amazing standup on HBO many many years ago. Fat assed Johnson, the goat he rented to the other military men, and the medical jokes were great.

It embarrasses me when a comedian , a struggling one, tries to be funny but isn’t. I know he’s up there sweating it out. Bill Cosby IS funny, no question. Lucy was funny at the time. Some of her episodes will always be funny like the chocolate factory one.
Tim Conway? Carol Burnett? Not anymore. JMO George Carlin had his moments but he was , to me, a pathetic, vulgar guy with one foot on a banana peel and THAT ISN’T FUNNY.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Funny! I love it the most when they ad lib….

Aster's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe He rented out a goat? OMG. I can see my entire world view changing before my eyes.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

It’s a tie between Ellen, Margaret Cho and Kathy Griffin (‘Suck it Jesus, this award is my god now!’)

jazmina88's avatar

Steve Martin, Robin Williams

Love some carol burnett

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

George Carlin, hands down.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Aster I think the joke was he rented the goat out to Navy men for $10 a night. The funniest part was someone in the audience yelling out Hey, where’s my change.

Coloma's avatar

Irene Dunn of the Beverly Hillbilles, l LOVED that woman! Granny rocked! lol

One of my fav. dialogues on the big move to ‘Californi’ and Grannys resistance.

Jed: There’s no snow in Californi, now Granny, you know how miserable you are goin’ down to the stil in winter

Granny: I may be miserable a goin’ down, but I feels just fine comin’ back up! lololol

I have every intention of being a little spitfire granny in my old age too! ;-)

George Carlin.

frdelrosario's avatar

George Carlin, but Maria Bamford has 30 or 40 years to make up ground.

I don’t think I could possibly choose an all time favourite but I do love Victoria Wood.

Also, Sarah Millican, Shappi Khorsandi, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, The Monty Python boys, Dara O’Briain, David Mitchell, Alan Carr, etc etc

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

Eddie Izzard and Jimmy Carr.

@aprilsimnel What British comedians do you like? I need more comedy to watch and you sound like you have my tastes.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@papayalily, mind, they’re mostly comic actors and/or writers. The ones who also do stand-up I’ll put an asterisk next to:

Bill Bailey*, Peter Cook, Jennifer Saunders, Chris Morris, Harry Enfield*, Dave Gorman*, Billy Connolly*, Robert Webb, David Mitchell, Spike Milligan, Rowan Atkinson, Catherine Tate, Vic Reeves, Bob Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Richard Ayoade, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Mark Heap, Ricky Gervais*, Peter Kay*, Sacha Baron Cohen, John Oliver*, Ben Elton*, Dawn French, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie (as a double act), Tamsen Grieg, Dylan Moran* (Irish, but works in the UK), Tommy Tiernan* (Irish), Graham Linehan (Irish, but works in the UK), Craig Ferguson*, Stewart Lee* (he’s a lot like the late Bill Hicks, but Scottish), Kevin Eldon, John Cleese, Michael Palin, The League of Gentlemen, Rowan Atkinson (except for when he does Mr. Bean)

christine215's avatar

Dom Irrera I’ve seen him live countless times (I feel like I know him personally) and I’ve never laughed harder than at one of his shows
(he’s even funny as the dog voice on that animated barn yard show)

misstrikcy's avatar

Spike Milligan!! In particular The Goon Show (on Radio 4) – funniest thing ever!

Slightly off the beaten comedy track – Dudley Moore & Peter Cook. Aka Derek & Clive (but you probably need to be hammered to appreciate the jokes).

I love British Comedy!
