Any tips on conserving battery power with a digital camera?
I finally left the photographic dinosaur land and started using a digital camera. It’s just a basic setup, but it goes through batteries like crazy. Any tips for making them last longer? The owners manual wasn’t a lot of help.

Well, my camera will only accept non-rechargeable batteries. I tried the chargeable ones, but my camera just ate them up. The ones I use last quite a long time though.
One thing, you’ve learned that if you hold the shutter halfway down, it’ll “set” the picture so that you can get the shot exactly when you see it, without the delay that comes if you don’t do that. However, that does use up more battery. Also, a lot of zooming and stuff. What kind of batts do you use?
@Dutchess_III Standard double AA Ever ready or other brand names. I went thru one set in about a day.
I have the same problem. My camera will take the rechargeable batteries, but after awhile, they don’t last very long either.
That’s a LOT. Will it take re-chargeable batts? I think a lot of it depends on how fresh the batteries are when you buy them too. I usually get at least a month out of mine….
Are you looking at the photos you take a lot? Viewing the images on the screen takes a lot more battery than actually taking the photos.
If your camera lets you, turn off the display screen (or set it to turn off after a few seconds of showing you the picture) and use the viewfinder to take pictures, and only review them quickly on the camera’s screen. Sadly many point-and-shoot cameras don’t have viewfinders anymore so this may not apply to you. Using the flash will eat up your batteries.
What make and model of camera do you have?
I was just at Radio Shack and they recommend lithium batteries. They said they would last much longer.
