Do butterflies fart?

Asked by k8tie2237 (88points) July 16th, 2010

I mean…it definitely can’t be loud if they do, but does anyone think they do? Is there proof?? Recordings, maybe?? :-p

Every animal farts including insects like bees and ants and butterflies.
If you have a belly of sorts and a rectum, gasses will build up due to digestion and by nature they will fart. If the animal has a digestive tract and a waste hole to remove unwanted material, the odds that the animal will not fart in it’s lifetime is quite slim. The least bit of restriction will allow for a gas build up and when this needs to be released due to build up of fecal matter and the friction properties of the animals “buttocks” and the reverberation of this gas release will of its own nature produce a fart-like sound. All animals need to release their waste as they are kinetic organisms that actively respond to their surroundings in response to food and mating activities at its most base level.

Now if they can fart and burp at the same time I do not know.

What a strange thought.

They do but unfortunately this results in them exploding, poor things. Now moths, pewww, now you’re talking!

Did you think, perhaps, that the “Butterfly effect” was caused by the flapping of their tiny wings?
