Are these reactions normal after starting birth control pills?

Asked by tney07 (59points) July 16th, 2010

I am on my third pack of loestrin 24fe. My first pack I started my period a week earlier than expected. It was very light and lasted 7 days. My second pack I had some very very light pink and brown bleeding, where it would just wipe away, and it was about a week earlier than my expected period. I didnt get my expected period, so I took a clearblue test when I was 2 days late. It was negative. I’ve taken 5 tests since then including this morning and all negative. I’m now 9 days late. I’ve been getting random cramps and headaches, I’ve also been tired a lot but I get almost 9 hours of sleep a night. My docters nurse( who by the way dont know my name or what pill I’m on or my symptoms) says its normal for the first couple months of starting a pill. Its hard for me to believe her because I’ve never had this problem with anyother pills. And the last time I was pregnant my only symptom for a long time was my missed period. Am I crazy? Or is something wrong?

It might just be the hormones messing with your body (especially if you’ve taken pregnancy tests and they’ve come out negative). Even low doses of hormones can set you off. Aside from that, things like stress, travel, sickness, etc can mess up your cycle. You should probably just make an appointment to see your gyno and let him/her know what’s going on!
Good luck.

Whenever you mess with hormones like most birth control does your menstrual cycle gets thrown all out of whack. That is normal. Stress can also do the trick.

My wife is high strung and on Depo, so her cycle is rather irregular to say the least, though it’s more stable now that she’s been on it for a while.

Well according to the clear blue info and when you tested I think it’s safe to say you aren’t pregnant. So thats good.

Do you exercise much? Low body fat can stop periods. Usually at has to be dangerously low, but I’ve had it happen when I was on the pill and exercising a lot. Two things that reduce menstruation (the pill and strenuous activity) can team up and eliminate it altogether. Though, that’s sign that you probably ought to lighten your workout.
