What are the best parenting sites on the web?

Asked by chocomonkey (295points) July 21st, 2010

It seems like there are a lot of bad ones. I’m curious which ones you like, and why.

There are tons of bad ones. I once ran into one where the sole purpose of the site seemed to be informing people about how genetics plays a larger role in a child’s upbringing than the parenting ever can. Good luck getting around stuff like that. I suggest you try StumbleUpon or something like it to search through popular sites.

babycenter.com is alright, you can find tons of information on it.

I find CafeMom.com is pretty good, if you don’t mind the advertising. We have a local mom’s club sponsored by our local newspaper, which links there.

i used to look at cafemom but i found it confusing – all the groups, topics, posts, i didn’t find it too easy to look at and i felt like i was lost in a labyrinth.

@jca It does take a lot of effort to get used to. I just started with one section and then gradually branched out. My first experience was to browse through them all, and then stick to the Answers section. Here is a tutorial on how to use the site.

I agree with casheroo, babycenter.com is great for true information for babies up to 9 or 10yrs, I think. As for the older ages,.. I’m not sure.

Thanks for your answers! I agree with @zophu that there are tons of horrendously bad ones. btw, if you haven’t already, check out parentsguild.com – it’s a fairly new site, but it’s done a good job at what it’s set out to do, creating a (kind) community of thinking parents.
