Is it okay to watch Jerry Springer at work?
My office is next to the break room. During lunchtime and breaks, the people I work with watch Jerry Springer, Steve Wilkos, and similar shows. This seems completely unprofessional to me, and I have considered mentioning it during a staff meeting.
Am I over-reacting?

Well, they have TV and it’s meant to be used on break. You can’t censor them because what they’re watching is trash in your opinion (and mine too.) I’d ask the boss about it though.
It’s a TV in the break room. What do you expect them to watch, Nova?
Unless they have money riding on “Who da baby daddy” just leave it alone. When customers visit, pull the plug.
I think it’s trash too. I figure Al Qaeda can use it to show how stupid and indecent Americans are. It’s an embarrassment.
It’s never ok to watch Jerry Springer.
Yes you are over reacting. Stop and think about it. You are one person in the field of many right? Why should many stop what they are doing to appease you?
Sure it’s bad TV, I agree with you there but in my opinion, any TV is bad TV.
On their own time, sure. The TV in my husband’s break room is always tuned to the Food channel.
It’s probably not the best thing to be watching at work, and I would only complain if it truly offends you. Otherwise, screw it, join in and be a part of the fun. You can use this as a team building opportunity. You will be surprised how much trust you can build through something like this.
Thank you all for the feedback. I will leave it alone. I’ve decided that if staff members think programs where people are shouting at others and calling them bitches and whores (ho’s), and “Suck my [bleep]!” in a professional environment is okay, then so be it. Fortunately, I’m not so many in the office who work in cubicles and can hear it. Thank goodness I can close my office door. LOL!
