Meta Question

For those that have been a member of Fluther long enough to witness change, what has been your favorite?

Asked by jonsblond (44316points) July 27th, 2010

I really dig the community feed.

What has been your most favorite improvement/change?

The bigger avatars on the profile pages.
The little pencil that indicates if someone is writing a response.
I like the awards, too. They are silly and fun.

YARNLADY's avatar

I hardly notice. Thing sometimes seem different, but it mostly just flows along.

anartist's avatar

I guess I have not been here long enough. Everything @tinyfaery mentions I like, but they were already in place. I think this is a very well-done site and I think the search engine has been quietly improving in the background.

Jeruba's avatar

The enlarged avatars. That was my immediate answer, even before opening this page.

I haven’t been too fond of most changes, and some I have actively opposed. But that one was unequivocally good.

breedmitch's avatar

I liked when they started paying for my expert advice.

mammal's avatar

the moderation improved.

rooeytoo's avatar

I like the social and meta catagories.

MacBean's avatar

NOTHING. CHANGE IS BAD.

Kidding. I don’t think there’s anything that I seriously dislike but, as @YARNLADY said, everything seems to flow so when things are added/taken away, it’s rarely a big enough deal that I feel the need to take much notice.

Facade's avatar

I like knowing if people are composing/observing. That’s nice.
I like the categories.
The larger avatars are nice too.

cookieman's avatar

Another vote for the larger avatars. I like seeing the details.

I was unsure at first, but now I really like the tabbed sections.

Unlike some, I’m a big fan of the moderation and the updated guidelines. If you want the wild west, it’s a big ole interwebs out there.

Jude's avatar

Big avatars, as well.

Community feed

Know when someone is “crafting a response”

BoBo1946's avatar

I think the social section, but after this morning, not even sure about that. No jokes from me anymore!

pearls's avatar

@BoBo1946 I enjoy your jokes and also, you bring alot of wisdom to this site. Unlike other people.

BoBo1946's avatar

@pearls thank you Pearls…all of the jokes relate to the question, i thought..loll

Coloma's avatar

I have been here about 4.5 months now.
I like the addition if the social section as well.

@BoBo1946

Yes, jokes and humor….never mind if people have the sense of humor of a dry leaf.
Keep on joking…..no humor and I’m dust in the wind. ;-)

becKYlou's avatar

Probably the social section. I’m able to have a laugh in there without risk of being modded….well within reason. Suits me fine.

DeanV's avatar

I’ve been here almost 2 years, but really the only change I’ve really noticed or liked all that much would be the meta section.

I’m pretty meh about the Social/General categorization, but I do like all of the mod-bashing, 10K parties, and other Fluther-related questions in one place. It’s quite convenient.

Big avatars are convenient, but that’s about the length of how I feel about them. They never seemed like a big change.

mattbrowne's avatar

The social section that allows people to joke around a bit.

anartist's avatar

@mattbrowne how quickly we forget . . .
I remember the riots just after the assassination of Martin Luther King. Standing and looking out the window of the Phillips Gallery watching the east side of the city burning. A curfew was imposed in the city. A few days later the curfew was changed from 9pm to 10pm and a woman called up a talk radio station to say how happy she was to be allowed out until 10.

Your reaction to the creation of the social section reminds me of that woman.

BoBo1946's avatar

LOLL….oh me, @mattbrowne “a bit!” Made my day my friend!

Seek's avatar

I like that we now know why responses have been moderated. I do still weep for really absurd questions that get “pulled for editing” and never return. Those are so much fun, and I like to revisit them.

downtide's avatar

I’ve only been here eight months but the Social section is new since I joined and I love it.

jonsblond's avatar

@BoBo1946 I haven’t been around this morning, what did I miss? I thought the social section was perfect for your humor.

I am happy to see larger avatars as well. There were some I had no clue as to what they were. Now I know!

Dutchess_III's avatar

Social section, and the more relaxed moderating.

BoBo1946's avatar

@jonsblond I’m better now…just a bad start for my day! But, thank you for the comment.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@BoBo1946 Don’t say anything funny!!! Hear me??!!

evandad's avatar

The influx of wonderful new members when Answerbag changed their format.

BoBo1946's avatar

@Dutchess_III lmao….touche my friend…a low profile day!

Coloma's avatar

@BoBo1946

Well..follow me around, I’ll joke for the both of us. haha

Jeruba's avatar

Wait, I have to change my answer. I wasn’t thinking back far enough. The big avatars are great but don’t actually affect our ease of use. An even bigger and better change than that was the activation of the dropdown lists and automatic linking with the ’@’ sign. Before that, we either had to type names, copy and paste, or use abbreviations such as ”@AC” and ”@gail” and ”@tf.” That was a pain and often caused confusion.

BoBo1946's avatar

@Coloma hey, everything is good. Nothing like socializing with friends.

rooeytoo's avatar

I think certain profile information should be mandatory. It would be good to at least know age range, gender and country.

anartist's avatar

@Dutchess_III don’t think of Niagara Falls.

augustlan's avatar

There are many I’ve really liked. From a member perspective, larger profiles and the @ drop down box are fantastic. From a mod perspective, the tools we use to do our jobs with have improved so much since I first became a mod, you wouldn’t believe it. Mod work is far less tedious now.

From my view as both a member and a mod, the Social and Meta Sections have been great, (with a few bumps along the way.)

mangeons's avatar

I love the bigger profile pictures, the @ linking, and the Community Feed a lot. I’m also a fan of the division between general, social, and meta.

DominicX's avatar

The embiggening of the avatars is at the top of my list as well, as are the new sections.

Dutchess_III's avatar

“Embiggening” DK?? Grin!

Seek's avatar

He’s taking word-inventing lessons from Sarah Palin.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr Nice! She’s a graduate of the Evelyn Woodhead Sped Redding class, you know!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Definitely the social section. When a group of us moved here from the failed wis.dm site, I really didn’t like it because I felt the guidelines were too strict. I popped in off and on a few times but never stayed, until I realized there was now a social section with more relaxed guidelines. I stayed this time because of that.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Same here @WillWorkForChocolate! Especially that~
