In Britain we had the Hammer horror classics with actors like Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee. Others made famous for their work in this genre include, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney jnr, Boris Karloff & Vincent Price. Now of course I realise those are blasts from a pretty illustrious past. You may have a preference for their contemporary counterparts. Whichever, who are your picks for masters of the horror field?

Definitely Vincent Price. Anthony Hopkins comes in a good second for his performance in Silence of the Lambs.
Christopher Lee, hands down. Jamie Lee Curtis as well – the original Scream Queen.
@tranquilsea vote for both of those. Also, Sigourney Weaver!
@tranquilsea Yeah just for that brilliant voice alone he has to be up there amongst the best.
maybe it’s cliche, but my vote is for Linda Blair.
I still get the creeps when I hear Vincent Price’s voice. Fall of the House of Usher is one of my favourite horror films.
Actually, I spelled it incorrectly. It’s “Bedlam.” My bad.
@Austinlad my friend, glad you corrected that! ... i never do that! loll
Another Bruce Campbell fan.
Robert Eglund created my favorite villain as Freddy Krueger. My Favorite hero is Ellen Ripley.
I’m a dinosaur. I have to vote for Lugosi, if for none other than sentiment.
I love the guy who played Freddy Krueger. What’s his name? Him…
I don’t have any. None of my favourite actors play in horror movies.
Vincent Price ( The Abominable DR Phibes)
‘CLASSIC HORROR’ I loved this stuff, the forerunner to SAW for me….. ;-)
Tom Savini or Robert Englund
@jonsblond He isn’t in From Dusk til Dawn anywhere near long enough.
Tin Curry as Dr. Frankenfurter…what a sweet transvestite he was! lol
“Tin”....lol
I meant “Tim” :-/
Classic
Lon Chaney Sr.
(Over Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and Vincent Price combined.)
Modern
Robert Englund may be the only comparable horror genre actor, but I’ll go with individual performances.
Vincent D’Onofrio as Carl Stargher in The Cell (2000)
Dee Snyder – as Captain Howdy in Strangeland (1998)
Ted Levine – as Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Christian Bale – as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho (2000)
Kevin Spacey – as John Doe in Se7en (1995)
Jack Nicholson in “The Shining”
@SVTSuzie
