What's a good, low cost, unlimited-minute cell phone plan?

Asked by KTWBE (769points) July 28th, 2010

I don’t text that much and don’t need to connect to the Internet, so a smartphone (i.e. Android, iPhone) would probably be too much phone for me. If I were looking for a cell phone with good coverage and unlimited call minutes (incl. mobile-to-mobile), for less than $100 a month, what would you recommend?

Straight Talk – the cell service provided by WalMart. It runs on Verizon’s towers, so you have awesome coverage, and the unlimited plan is $45 a month. No contracts. I have the $30 phone – the cheapest – and it’s perfect for me!

My husband uses Straight Talk. He goes with the $30 plan. I am a phone whore and have a contract phone, but he doesn’t use his much and likes the Straight Talk a lot. I wish he’d gotten a Verizon phone or something instead, because he pays $30 a month for 1000 minutes, 1000 text and so much data, which he never comes close to using. On Verizon you only pay for the days you actually use the phone.

Wal-Marts “Straight talk” it’s 45 a month for unlimited talk, text and internet. And there’s no contract.
