How do i remove fake nails pain free and easy?

Asked by Brenna_o (1779points) July 28th, 2010

Ok so I have had some fake nails for like 3 weeks and now my nails are growing so they dont look to good anymore. So I was wondering what is the easiest way to take them off with out just ripping them off my nails?

pain free and easy is to soak them in acetone nail polish remover, get nippers and keep nipping around the edges every few minutes

it’s the most painless way to get rid of them

(it’s also the least healthy as soaking in acetone is really bad for you)

otherwise, just kind of get under the edge with a matchbook or something solid and wedge between the real nail and the artificial nail

you’re more likely to take off a little of the top layer of your ‘real’ nail doing it this way, but you’re at least not soaking in a dangerous chemical

Yes that is correct Christine.

Are these acrylic nails? I don’t recommend just tearing them off if that’s the case. Before you soak them in the nail polish remover, though.. be sure to cut them down as short as you can and then use some petroleum jelly on the skin around your fingertips. Try to avoid getting it on the nail itself.. but that will help to protect your fingers from drying out.

Don’t use acetone polish remover, it would take hours. Use full strength acetone. You can buy it with the nail polish. Use a glass dish. Plan to be useless for an hour or so. Or go to the nail salon and have them remove the nails for you. They would do it the same way, but they can get all the acrylic off without damaging your nails any.

If you like having acrylic nails you can also keep them, just go back to the salon and they will infill them for you

Christine’s correct.

You’ve got to soak them in pure acetone. For a long time. After each soak, layer by layer, wipe them off. They will melt. Sometimes they finally peel off easily from your natural nail. If there is a good bond this will not happen. They will always take off a layer of your natural nail. This is why if you soak, rub w cotton, you will gradually get to the glue part bonding the plastic or acrylic nail to your own nails.
