I’m very familiar with experimental and art films, but I’ve ever seen John Cassavete’s. Which are his most iconic, must-see?

I am a big fan of Cassavetes’ films, some or all of which are available on Netflix. You have to be patient to sit through them, but they’re worth it for the direction and acting. I particularly like “Husbands, “A Woman Under the Influence” and “The Killing of a Chinese Bookie.”

I’m not an expert so I’m not going to say these are his most “iconic” films but my favorites are: one @Austinlad already mentioned, A Woman Under the Influence, and The Tempest, his interpretation/take on Shakespeare’s play and Gloria.

Gloria
A Woman Under The Influence
The Killing of a Chinese Bookie

If you like Cassavetes, I suggest you also watch Saint Jack and The Long Good Friday. He didn’t have anything to do with them, but they have the feel of his work.

There’s a wonderful documentary about him (and his pals Ben Gazzara and Peter Falk. It opens with the announcement on BBC of his untimely death. Worth Googling for. I’ve seen it several times. Shows him directing “Husbands.”
