What does it take to wake you up in the morning?

Asked by lillycoyote (24875points) July 30th, 2010

I don’t mean after you get out of bed, how long it takes, how many cups of coffee it takes, how you need a shower, etc. but what it takes to actually wake you up and get your ass out of bed. Do you just wake up when it’s time, when you need to and that’s it? Does/do your spouse, significant other, children, etc. wake you up? Do you need an alarm clock? A wake up service? What does it take? I have to set both my clock radio and set an alarm on my cell phone or I could very well oversleep. It’s kind of scary sometimes. I live in fear of sleeping through it all.

A very loud alarm clock. I’m a hard sleeper.

I wake up all on my own.

Between 6:45 and 7:30. Every morning. No matter what.

Sometimes, it really, really sucks.

I’m the kind of person that springs out of bed. Once I’m awake, I can’t go back to sleep. Sometimes coffee is needed, but not often.

It takes 2 hours of pounding the snooze and then frantically getting up because of fear of being late.

I’m a really light sleeper. Anytime someone else stirs in their sleep, or there’s a noise outside, or… (the list goes on and on), I wake up. So I usually wake up several times during the night, and have trouble falling back asleep. Often, I will wake up an hour or half hour before I intended to wake up, and lay around restlessly in bed until it’s time to get up. It’s kind of a pain. But, I never need an alarm, and I never oversleep.

Not much. I put the alarm clock on the other side of the room. The fact that I have to get up to turn it off wakes me up more than the alarm clock does. Somestimes, though, I’ll wake up just before it goes off. Then I remember that I have to get up to turn it off and that wakes me up as well.

It doesnt take more then a touch on my arm to wake me up.. I have been known to smack my friends when they touch me if I am in a super dead (pills induced) sleep. I cant handle being touched while asleep lol. But if I dont take my sleeping pills (yes at 17 i need them alot :( ) if i am touched i wake up.. So either people touch me to wake me up. Or i set my phone alarm on school and work days.
Getting the motivation to get out of bed is a whole nother story haha.

On days that it’s really important that I wake up on time, I set two really loud alarm clocks, set an alarm on my cell phone (all at slightly different times), and ask my husband to call me and make sure I’m up. I sleep like the dead.

I always lived in a very full house, lots of kids, lots of noise. I was the oldest of 5, so I was often working midnights, and asleep when the rest of the house was being rambunctious. You learn to sleep through a lot.

Now it takes two alarms plus a cell (exactly as @augustlan said.) After that, I need at least an hour to myself to un-zombie myself. I usually won’t speak for a good thirty minutes after I wake up. Most of the time if someone tries to talk to me I just sort of grunt or stare blankly. I bet I’m adorable in the morning.

@TheOnlyNeffie I need a good hour or two to fully wake up, too. I don’t drink any caffeine, so that might have something to do with it.

Used to be, when I worked late shifts, that I didn’t need to leave the house til noon so I let myself wake up naturally, usually around 9am. Then in March I switched to earlies, have to be in work at 8am so I get up about 6.30am. For the first month or two I relied on an alarm clock but now I’m waking up naturally at that time. It’s the going to bed earlier that’s harder. No more staying up til 2am.

It takes me a good full two hours to wake up.

Just the drop of a pin on a carpet and I’m up and alert! (Quite eerie actually!)

I don’t know.
Same time every day with no alarm clock. I don’t even own one.

Nothing if I’m not going to school or work.
