What is a good online school to go to?

Asked by espearite (278points) August 3rd, 2010

This fall I plan to go back to school for my AA in psychology, and wanted to know what are some low-cost, but good online schools to go to? I have thought about going with Liberty online as opposed to University of Phoenix (UoP made it very hard for me to enroll and they’re very expensive). Can someone recommend a place they’ve gone to that didn’t hassle you over online options and cost less than UoP?

I go to St Leo online :)

A real university that has online programs and not a “school” that’s only online.

St Leo has both. I will be going into the classroom this fall as well as taking a course online from them

Give EarnMyDegree.com a look. They will direct you toward the best online degrees in your specific area of interest. You could also try their College Wizard to see what colleges it thinks would be best.

I haven’t used any personally, but I would check the various review sites to find out what other people are saying.

Thanks to everyone for your helpful advice. I will give those suggestions a try. :)

I suggest getting a degree from a physical university, not an online school. Your degree will be more valuable.

@ perspicacious: Do you mean going on campus or would it have to be a campus offering online courses towards a degree?

@espearite—Either take classes on the campus or, if you must, take online classes offered by an accredited physical college/university. Human resource folks recognize that going to college on campus gives a richer experience to the student.

Most community colleges have online courses you can can take. You get a real degree but it is all done over the computer. To a potential employer it wouldn’t look any any different than if you you went to class all day.

I know a few people in HR and a degree from UoP and other online diploma mills are usually tossed in the trash.

And a community college will probably be cheaper than a For-Profit online school like the UoP.

@perspicacious and johnpowell: Thank you for the information. This is good to know before getting into something like this. I didn’t think such degrees were ignored. They keep telling you over the internet that they don’t put “online” on your degree but if it’s from a certain place, that’s what counts.
