Cake! Cake! Cake! I don’t have either one very often :(
No man, why do we have to choose???!
I eat cake more often, but that’s only because i know it’s good. I love cherry pie but we don’t get it here in SA. I love other pies too. I’m not sure why i buy cake more often….maybe my subconsious is trying to tell me that i prefer cake over pie…
That’s like choosing between two best friends.
cake 4 ever!!!! lol xD :p

Cake… But I don’t really like cake. I like the icing and possible fillings, and I’ve had a few flour-free that I could really get addicted to, but not normal cake. Pie, on the other hand, I could really get into if people would stop making it taste like shit. It’s always so sweet and without flavor or nuance, it’s just a solid form of flavored simple syrup. Find me a good pie and I’ll re-evaluate, but I’ve only had one pie in my whole life that wasn’t screwed up (except for pumpkin, of course).
Pie. The best thing about cake is the frosting.
Cake! Coconut cake, especially.
Many times, for me, cake is too much, too sweet, too heavy. Oy, all the frosting! Bleah!
Pie, with its combo of savory crust and lighter fillings, is just right!
I am the Co-Captain of Team Pie.
You gotta make it that way!
I LOVE savoury pies… Mmmmmm..foood..
Pie. Unless it is cheese cake.
I like pie more unless its a wedding cake . My fav is apple pie BUT it must be microwaved and then cool whip must be on top.(-;
I am often disappointed in the freshness of cake and the icing. I like cream cheese icing on carrot cake. Best cake I’ve ever eaten was a DINO cake bought in Branson, Missouri. Ripoff.
Pie always…. you can then decide whether you have your pie sweet or savoury. More choice.
Pie. Definitely pie. I rarely make cakes, and then only really really complex ones (I know, pretty stupid). But pie? I gotta make a peach pie because there are so many great peaches now. It’s rhubarb pie in spring. Peach pie in summer. Apple and squash pie in fall, and mince pie in winter. That’s how it goes, except sometimes I’ll mix in another fruit—like strawberries with the rhubarb.
I was once accused of making the best pie this person had ever tasted. And she was a good cook, herself. I’d invite you all over for a slice, but I do have a life, contrary to all appearances.
I just made the best pie I ever had (Cook’s Illustrated’s blueberry) and it was indeed superior to any cake I’ve ever had, especially with a side of fancy vanilla ice cream.
Pie.
Cream pies to be exact.
I do love cake to but pie OMG heaven.
my late grandmother’s chocolate CAKE with her homemade mocha frosting FTW !!
with a tiny, tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side
My sister and I used to forgo on Mom’s homemade chocolate cake after dinner and ‘save’ it for after breakfast the next day. We’d flip it over on the plate and eat the cake first, then the icing last.
The taste-buds have changed over the years, and desserts don’t hold the same appeal. But, I will never pass on a piece of key lime pie and a cup of coffee or my sister’s chocolate mousse cake with a glass of milk.
I don’t like cake, but I love homemade apple pie (the store bought is too sugary.
Pie is better, you don’t need to add icing to make a pie taste better.
@WestRiverrat I agree, but a piece of homemade pumpkin pie with a bit of maple syrup on top is divine. Maybe it’s a Pennsylvania-Dutch thing. Most people are grossed out by the thought, but they don’t know what they are missing until they try it.
sounds gross but then again i would probably eat it
Depends on the cake, depends on the pie.
I love a Spice Cake with Peanut Butter frosting, and a dream cake (which is like a giant Ho-ho).
I love blackberry pie, and my wife’s Apple Pie.
My favorites, though, are Mud Pie (which is actually an ice cream dessert), Chocolate Mousse, or Cheesecake (which is actually more of a pie).
@YARNLADY true, but you don’t NEED the ice cream to make the pie good.
I enjoy cooking…enjoy making people feel special. Over time, I’ve gone a little French with my desserts, to make them less sugary.
My apple pie is brimming with apples, very little sugar and a lot of cinnamon. Serving it warm with quality vanilla ice cream is just what the doctor ordered.
I love to make wedding cake recipes for little occasions. That type of white cake is scrumptious…particularly with rich, but not too sugary, icing.
When my daughter lived at home, we would make birthday cakes for some of our favorite people who have passed. My favorite one was for John Lennon. Each year, we’d do a devil’s food cake, white icing…decorated with John’s famous self portrait.
For us, the key to everything about food, is more than nutrition…it’s about having fun…making it special.
Thought pies were made to throw in people’s face and cakes for old people’s birthdays! Whom, is making me a cake?
Tough choice for me but if it’s an apple pie with vanilla ice cream on top mixed with caramel I would definitely choose the pie.
I just had the best apple cream pie I have ever tasted. It was called 3 cream pie, because the filling was made heavy cream, sour cream and cream cheese. Now if I can only get the recipe out of the cook.
I put some whipped cream on top so it was actually a 4 cream pie.
