How to back up my iPod contents before changing my computer?

Asked by inman2787 (6points) August 6th, 2010

My computer is quite outdated and works slowly, so I plan to buy a new one. But I wonder if my iPod contents will still exist after the reinstallation of iTunes in my new computer. And should I download the newest iTunes?
Will the contents in iPod disppear after synching it with my new computer? I really don’t know what to do next?
Appreciate your help!
PS: My iPod is CLASSIC 120G…..

I am actually doing the same thing within the week when my mac arrives! I have also done this once before and it is fairly simple. All of your music is in your music folder on your computer unless you have moved it or saved it somewhere else which you would know. If you have an external hard drive like I do, then you can copy all of your music straight to the external, and then turn off your computer, plug in the external hard drive to the new computer, and then move the files from the external to the hard drive on your new computer. And then when you have itunes ready to go on your new computer, you go to the file drop down in itunes, and “add folder to library” to find the folder you moved your music to on your computer. If you don’t have an external hard drive, then you can use a flash drive; however a flash drive may take some time and multiple swaps between computers because it may not be large enough to grab your whole library at once. If there is any confusion about this process or you wish to find another way (which I’m positive there is) you can just google it as stated above. And yes get the newest version of Itunes. Best of luck!
