Do I have pelvic inflammatory disease?
I plan to call my doctor monday morning but I’m just curious if these symptoms sound like pelvic inflammatory disease (or anything else). Every so often I experience mild to moderate pain in my lower abdomen and lower back. It’s a dull ache, almost like the beginning of a menstrual cycle, but I can feel the difference between the two. This pain isn’t the same as cramps from my period. Also, having sex is sometimes painful. I’m also experiencing more discharge than usual. Could this be PID? If so, how likely is it that my reproductive health will be compromised?
Again, I am seeing a doctor asap. This is just a discussion to find out further information about PID and get some opinions. Thanks!
Edit: Less than 6 months ago I had a gyno exam. Shouldn’t the doctor have caught something if it was wrong? Are there tests for pelvic inflammatory disease?

The Mayo Clinic has a pretty good site. Sorry, I don’t know how to link.
Is it possible you’re pregnant? Have you taken a pregnancy test? How about recent activities? Any changes in level of activity or new exercise regiment? Sometimes more common possible answers are overlooked.
I’m not a doctor, but I would think when you get there they will run a pregnancy test, a test for std’s/bacterial infection that you’re worried about, and ask about recent changes in exercise or activity. A lot can develop in 6 months so it doesn’t necessarily mean something was missed at your last appointment.
Do any of those causes seem more likely?
Regarding long term reproductive health, your body is extremely resilient and generally if a condition is treated early it’s unlikely you’ll have issues long term.
I hope it goes well Monday and good luck, it can be a lot to think about.
Make sure they do a G & C and not just a normal bacterial culture. Are you having any odd discharge? Yellowish? Did you recently have sex, and this started a few days after?
The symptoms you have described are some that occur with PID. I’ve actually had this disease and had to be hospitalized and yes I believe it did effect my fertility status.
