Do you have to pay to your phone company when you use handcent sms?

i know it is free to use handcent sms but i disabled my text function in verzion so
1— can i use handcent sms?
2— do i have to pay verzion for texting?

Yes, you need to pay Verizon for texting, and if you don’t, there’s no point in having Handcent.

You can, however, use Google Voice to get free text messaging. But you must use the Voice app, and not Handcent. You will also need to give your contacts your Google Voice number, which they may call you at as well.
