On 25 February 2009, the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority announced that Azharuddin as well as Rubina would be given “free houses” so that they would no longer have to live in the Mumbai slum of Garib Nagar.[13] Following this announcement, Rubina’s mother, Khushi, returned to claim Rubina and wishes to move in with her to the new flat.
Soon after the success of Slumdog Millionaire, her life was again media focus when her father was arrested for allegedly attempting to sell her for US$290,000.
From Wiki.
@missingbite , I don’t understand how a parent can sell his child or try to
That’s just sick I feel sorry for the poor girl!
One word. Desperation. Very hard to fathom in a country like mine. Where even most of the poor don’t know poor.
ah that was kinda complicated:/ I don’t understand your meaning?
You stated that you didn’t understand how a parent could try to sell their child. My point is that when you live in the true slums of the world with nothing and little chance for anything, it’s amazing what you can convince yourself to do for something. I live in the US and there are very few if any places here that have that much desperation.
Oh, yeah well. I really hope the best for the girl:/
Me too! It sounds like her education is paid for and she has a trust for when she gets older.
