What is a song you like or love where the band/artist just leaves it all out on the stage or in the studio?

Asked by Cruiser (40454points) August 13th, 2010

I am asking about the songs where you just go ‘OMG’ that was awesome! It doesn’t have to be your favorite but I am curious as to what song makes other jellies hair stand up on their arms when they hear that certain song the one where the artist or band just hit the nail on the head, that one time where everything came together and literally left if all on the stage or in the studio.

I heard Evenflow on the way into work and Pearl Jam is not really a “favorite” band of mine but ‘Lordy’ they kicked it out big time with that song, from the lyrics, to the music and obviously Eddies vocals just really put it out there and it clicked with me.

Jeff Healey the blind guitarist did to me with his If You Can’t Feel Anything Else (obscure link best I could find)

Rory Gallagher was famous for just tearing it up with tunes like Bullfrog Blues

Even Tom Jones can inspire us with his amazing dance moves in outings like this one in the zone

Any examples or suggestions would be a very cool way to start the weekend and provide links where possible!

Buckcherry’s Black Butterfly album does it for me. Rose, Dreams, and Highway Star. I’ll look for some links.

Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond . Emotionally charged from first note to last. A heartfelt tribute to their friend Syd Barrett.

@Cruiser The only links I could find were to Sorry. Not real kick ass. Keith Urban and John Mayer did a great number at the CMA show. That was a hair raiser.

@Adirondackwannabe Buckcherry did this pretty wound up version of Highway Star for NASCAR

Keith Urban & John Mayer ~ Hit The Ground Runnin…

@stranger_in_a_strange_land Gee how can you even pick just one Pink Floyd tune?? But that one would certainly be up there! Thanks!

Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Amazing by itself but watching them perform it is a real blast too. The RAC mix ain’t bad either.

Lateralus by Tool

@Cruiser It’s even better when you hear it live (not recorded live, but actually live).

@jjmah What song does Tool not leave it all out on? They have to be drop dead exhausted after a concert!

Mandinka – SinĂ©ad O’Connor

@aprilsimnel She’s brilliant. I recently was a bit of a Sinead kick. Such great songs. I also like her rendition of House of the Rising Sun.

I saw the Decemberists play the Hazards of Love from start to finish (which is completely amazing as a whole). When it came time for The Rake’s Song, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It was the most powerful thing I’ve heard, probably ever.

@shrubbery I saw them play a few weeks ago, it was incredible. The whole place was jumping all night long.

This one will have a lot of jellies going Huh? A Crosby, Stills, and Nash concert. Saw them twice, most recently last summer in Cooperstown, both times excellent shows. Not going to lay out a completely ripped version of any one song, but the shows altogether are great.

The Raconteurs – Blue Veins

the video is 8 minutes long, but well worth it if you like Jack White

There are a lot!!! But the one that came to mind first:
Melissa Etheridge and Joss Stone’s Janis Joplin tribute

I love Kevin Skinner singing If Tomorrow Never Comes.

Also, I saw Paul McCartney in concert last year. When he played Hey Jude it was amazing because of all the people singing ‘Na na na na na na na’.

The Flaming Lips – See The Leaves.

They managed to really really freak out David Letterman on that one, something I haven’t seen many bands do.

Yellowledbetter- Pearl Jam
Somebody to love – Queen
Wild is the wind – David Bowie
Kashmir – Led Zeppelin

@Samantha_Rae Great additions! Janis for sure, Melissa for sure and Joss sure kicks it out too!!

I am nowhere close to being a musician or expert on music, but even I can recognize the genius behind this piece of music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOcXBNYXnYY

Yann Tiersen fucking blows my mind in general.
