What's your story of "the one that got away"?

Asked by kevbo (25672points) March 23rd, 2008 from iPhone

Could be a guy, girl, fish, car, or whatever.

One of mine was applying to amazon.com in 1997, when it was still in it’s infancy, and not getting the job. I’m sure I would have made a small fortune.

On time I was eating these really good grapes. One of them fell and rolled under the oven. I never saw that grape again.

Well I have a feeling that I’m going to have a story of someone who got away pretty soon. There’s this girl that I like and I see her every Sunday at my Sunday school classes. Well this weekend is our last class, and I have a feeling that it’s going to be the last time that I’m going to see her. I’ve liked her for a while, but I never really had a chance to get to know her because I’m so shy when I’m around her.

@axlefoley, What do you mean?

Well, I married the woman of my dreams, who is pregnant with our daughter, I have a ‘55 Bel Air, and I have caught a 40 pound catfish, and at 28 I’m still skateboarding after 13 years. I guess I’ve got all I could ask for.

It’s not to late. Fancy loseing out on something you want. That you are to scared to do anything about. I except that I will lose out on things that are out of my control. TEEJAY

I bought Apple stock at $40 and sold it when it dropped to $20.

bulbatron9's avatar

@gail I would say that more than qualifies as “The one that got away”!
How much would that stock be worth today?

@bulb; what is the sound of me falling on my sword? I am too humiliated to say. But I will add that I bought Microsoft at its highest, kept it and now IT is selling at below $30. As PT Barnum said, “There’s one born every day.”

And I was trading online at the time, in order to save broker’ s fees. BIG mistake.

bulbatron9's avatar

@gail At least you have Milo the Magnificent!

I don’t know what else to say, except maybe Microsoft will make a comeback.

gailcalled's avatar

@Bulb; from your lips…. I should probably let Milo pick out common stocks now with a claw mark. It may be just as sensible as my methods.

Gail, you’ve done it again! The tears of laughter feel GREAT! Hilarious, and uncommonly witty! You’re the BEST!

a few years back there was this guy I was seeing for I’d say about a month. I have a hard time putting my whole heart out there, and I broke up with him. a little more of a week passed and I could not stop thinking about him. I finally got up the nerve to tell him when I found out he was dating someone else.

Its been about two years and they’re still together. i never fully got over it.

@gailcalled: can you alert us when you sell stock, so the rest of us know when to buy it?

gailcalled's avatar

@cw; with friends like this…..who needs “Comedy Central”?

They all got away. That says two things about me. First, I’m slow. Second, I have a lot of stories to tell.
